I'm hoppin mad about the dirty little trick AMD played on us(re: locked mults on bartons 2500 etc) and I'm wondering how many others feel the same. Post your comments here. I already sent them a nastygram but I figured that Toms is respected within the industry and maybe we can get some results.

PS: lets give a shout out to Raretech for the term "core market alienation". I'd say that just about says it all.
PS. does anyone have a contact at amd? I can't find a good spot on their site to send feedback.

Well, i have to say i disagree with you, AMD didn't play with us, we played with AMD. Their sales on the 3200+ was obviously low, since ppl figured out that 2500+ and 3200+ were the exact same chips, except the label, so why not save 400 dollars? AMD learned how to be an [-peep-], just like Intel a long time ago. Now, just spend a little extra cash on the 2800+, it's not locked.

Unfortunatly I haven't "stolen" an unlocked 2500, or at least I don't think I have. I just got mine yesterday and the steping is aqyha. Anyway my big gripe was not that they locked the mults rather the way they did it. It was all sneaky and underhanded.

Hey stupid_tech_geek, check out the posts from November when AMD started the %$# of locking the multi's. That's where you'll find the "Shock & Horror" of the locked multi's being discussed.

BTW, I agree with you. AMD did it a sneaky way, that was wrong.

Good luck indeed. I wish I'd never bought this one. Actually I would have been happy to buy a 2800 but 130.00 on pricewatch is too much.Damn, Suckered again.

AMD designed their new 2500+ chip with 1 principal in mind, "dissapoint all the overclockers". I can't blame them for that because it was obvious that nobody was buyint the 3200+. 2600+, 2800+, aren't so expensive, and are unlocked, grab them before they get locked.
