I just bought a Treo 650 and wanted to give my
Kyocera 7135 to a friend who also has Verizon
but a rep told me that Verizon can no longer
reactivate this phone.
He told me that I should donate this phone to
charity because somebody may be able to use it
for calling 911.
In addition to the standard charger and cradle
I've also got a folding keyboard for this phone
as well as a hand-free car kit, a travel charger,
a car charger, a stereo headset, a USB cable for
using the phone as a modem and 2 extra batteries
(not the exploding kind).

I just reactivated a 7135 about a week ago. I had been using another phone
and switched back to the 7135. You do have to activate with one of their
data plans too.

Did you reactivate your phone for the same phone number
as before ? I think what they meant is that they cannot
reactivate my phone for somebody else who has a different
phone number.

Yes it was the same number but I don't see why that should make a
difference. The phone that I activated in between uses of the 7165 was a
Startac that had never been on my number; clearly much older than a 7165.
Did they give you a reason why they would not activate it on a new number?

I just called the Verizon store but the person who answered
the phone didn't seem to think there would be a problem.
It's going to take a while for me to copy all the data on
the 7135 that cannot be copied through a Hot Sync operation
but will let you know what happens after I give this phone
to my friend.

Text messages. I couldn't find them in the Palm folder on
my desktop PC or maybe I just looked in the wrong places.

Yes, you can activate it; but it does require a data plan. You can "press"
CS to get the data plan removed (I did). Don't believe they can "not" allow
you to activate the phone, after all it was on their approved list, and it
should technically be "grandfathered". If anyone tells you different, be
nice, and ask for a manager. If they say no, repeat, call back, and try
again till you get a yes. Be firm, but be nice.

If the other person already has Verizon, have them try doing the switch
on-line, without involving CS (if this is still available on-line, last time
I tried, this service was "temporarily unavailable." However CS did switch
the service from a currently unavailable phone (V60s), to an older phone
(270C) that is no longer approved for new acccounts.

Isn't that what the CD slot is for? The only files you cannot copy

;
; You can copy those too.
At the real risk of stomping on your new device-specific settings and
importing incompatible ones.

Well, yes... good point but you can copy them over.
You probably don't want to but you can do it.
