HI.
New to this forum but old timer to Toms site.
I didn't see a "search" feature and I'm sure this has been covered but I'll ask anyway.
I have a asus p2b and a p2 400 cpu. I want to know how far I can safely overclock the chip. Right now it's at 533mhz and seemingly ok. I'm just curious as to the limitations before I burn it up !

thanks,
charly

I would not try to OC those chips, youll get software corruption off the whazoo

Barton 2500+ @ 2200mhz (10x220 vcore @ 1.8)
Asus A7N8X Dlx 440 FSB
1gb Geil GD pc3500 Dual Channel (2-3-3-6)
Segata 80gb SATA 8.5ms seek
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro(420/720)

I had mine up to 567mhz 140fsb for a long time without problems. Each chip is different so your mileage will vary.

Once the pci bus starts getting over 40mhz it is time to worry about data corruption on the hard drives.

I aint signing nothing!!!

Thanks for the reply's. I'll let it cook for a while and see if any gremlins pop up..I'm running a beta bios due to the install of an 80 gig hd and a hodge podge of 128mb mem 100 & 133 sticks and actually not much heat. As you know the core voltage isn't soft selectable so I'll leave that alone(no guts!)

thanks
BTW...thinking about getting the asus p4 800dx mb. HAve ya heard anything good or bad about this one? Probably put a gig of 3200 mem and a p4 2.8 ghz cpu.

Mine hit 600mhz i am sure it could have gone further if i added some cache cooling...i was using a pretty crazy vcore though...but the chip ran cool (i wish i could say the same about the cache). The way it sounds it seems like you are running stock voltage? Up the vcore .1-.2v and you should be able to easily hit 600mhz or more...although i question the ability of your mixed bag of pc100 and pc133 to take 150mhz fsb. Also you are using a relativly early revision BX mobo, although most of the latter BX boards could run 150mhz fsb, i am not quite sure if yours will be able to. Anyhow overclock it up the wazoo!
