Hi,
I'm looking for a simple software firewall to protect a dedicated game
server from specific abusive IP addresses. The basic idea is to be able to
quickly create rules to block specific IP addresses of people who
habitually brake the game rules.
The server is already behind a hardware router/nat (which doesn't support
this particular function), so security overall isn't a major concern.
We're just looking for something that is straightforward, quick to use for
this purpose, doesn't take up a many resources, and doesn't have a lot of
unnecessary functions.
Can anyone recommend something along these lines to me?

I don't think I would have a problem with BlackIce doing that. BlackIce
sat on all machines behind the Linksys NAT router and I was able to set
rules to block IP(s), even by rigth-clicking an IP in the Event Box and
Rejecting it or by going to the ADV FW Settings and setting the rule to
reject/block an IP. BlackIce is still setting on the machines behind the
WatchGuard for now protecting the LAN.
BI is not loaded with a bunch of unnecessary junk either. BI does have a
full trial version that's hard to find.

Tiny personal firewall should do this for you without taking up much
resources on your game server.
