This is my first post in this forum, i only just registered a minute ago.

My question is this, I'm about to build a new system around the p4 3.0 C with Hyper Threading(it fell off a truck)wink! No Return :)

Anyway if anyone can help me out as to which mobo to get, something very overclock friendly.
I'm interested in the Asus p4c800 E deluxe? but i just don't know.

And also is there a limit as the the max speed of memory these chips can take? I know the minimum requirement is pc-3200 but what about pc-3500, pc-3700, pc-4000, pc-4400? will i be able to run these as well. I want the best, so kick me down some advice. Don't be shy.

thanks for anything you can do, it's greatly appreciated.

The Asus p4c800 E deluxe is a fine choice or you can get the Abit IC7 MAX 3 mobo as well. For that CPU, you need at least pc3200 but Id suggest PC3700 for your OCing needs.

Barton 2500+ @ 2200mhz (10x220 vcore @ 1.8)
Asus A7N8X Dlx 440 FSB
1gb Geil GD pc3500 Dual Channel (2-3-3-6)
Segata 80gb SATA 8.5ms seek
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro(420/720)

I have the P4C800-E Deluxe. I wish I had the Abit IS7.

Well, the IC7 is fussy with RAM, I haven't seen that often with the IS7. My Asus has VRM fluctuations that limit my overclocking. And that's prevelent on all their P4P and P4C boards.

I'm not as knowledgable with the intel side, but Abit boards cater to overclockers.
For instance, they usually allow you to raise the voltage on your northbridge where Asus boards generally don't.

There is nothing wrong with the Asus board, especially if you want a rock solid stable system around.
(I've never had a problem with an Asus board that wasn't dead)

However, the Abit will give you a much better price/performance ratio and better overclocking abilities.
If you're looking to overclock, you should go with the Abit.

Normally I'd recommend PC4000, but you probably won't be able to push the FSB to 250MHz (quad pumped) anyways, so PC3700 may be a better choice.
You'd have to push your processor to 3.5GHz to match the PC3700's rated speed.
I like Corsair's XMS series, but I know a lot of people who have had good luck with highend Mushkin memory.
Both seem to work well with Abit boards so I wouldn't worry too much about the memory issues you heard about.

If you can use all four memory slots, by all means use them.
I've seen some people get better stability and/or lower timings out of four sticks vs two.
While the increase in performance may not be noticable, you can burnout a pair of ram and still have a functioning system to continue overclocking on while you RMA the ram.

Check out the Epox boards, they also offer some insane voltages, like 3.3 Vdimm.
