HI, I'm new to the Tom's Hardware Forum. I had my Leadtek Geforce4 TI 4200 64MB for almost a year now. The stock speed are 250/514. I decided to overclock it to play Far Cry. I overclock it to 300/600 and i put my case heat sensor on it and it run around 99F to 105F while running PCMArk 2003. When i touch the graphic card, it's not even hot at all. Should i raise it up to 300/650 to match the 4600 stock speed? Is the temperature fine? My PCMark2003 score went up . This is a very nice card.

You can try, but its unlikely you'll get the memory that high, since its probably at best 3.3ns which is only good for about 620Mhz MAX. I know I can get my RAM to about 616 before I get artifacts, but I could probably go further with voltmodding (I've decided not to do this, but Vapor might).

I actually made a decision not to voltmod...I pushed the RAM too far (Samsung 3.6ns @ 325MHz, cycling 3DMark while I was studying for an hour [yes, I realize 50MHz over spec is a lot--it was a stupid idea]) and now I get artifacts and many other problems at all speeds (<b>no</b> scenery textures throughout most of Vice City and the Far Cry Demo for instance--then tons of crashes in my other games). No use in improving a damaged card, IMO.

I was just starting to get back into gaming too! That $220 Sapphire 9800Pro is really looking nice right now...

Well the GPU clock is ok but the ram may not do 650 despite it being cool for the ram was not rated for that and would not bench better over 600. 300/600 is the best setting.

Barton 2500+ @ 2200mhz (10x220 vcore @ 1.8)
Asus A7N8X Dlx 440 FSB

Segata 80gb SATA 8.5ms seek
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro(420/720)

Well, if you read my other post, I pushed my PNY GeForce4 Ti4200 to 300/600. Now I get a flicker in the screen about halfway down and on the sides of the monitor about once every 30 minutes. Although, the past two days it has not shown up. The problem showed up after overclocking, but now has gone away after running stock speed for a week. Weird. You may be able to get more out of the memory, but not much more without artifacts. Also, anyone know what kind of memory is used on the PNY cards? 4ns or 3.3ns? Here is the best score I could get:

Wow, that sounds bad. I gave up on 616Mhz after I started getting artifacts in CoD after about an hours playing. Ive decided 300/600 is good enough for me atm. Im now going to wait for the new cards to come out bfore I upgrade. Im hoping to get either a new budget card (newer equivalent of 9600XT) or If the prices go down enough I may get a 9800Pro (currently ~£200, hoping they'll go down to about £120).

Yeah, I got artifacts at around 616MHz, too...but I kept pushing it. Oh well, makes me spend more time studying I guess. I'll see what gets released overall (not just GPUs) and decide to get a new card, new system, or nothing...

I have the 128mb, ASUS 8420, version running @ 310/675. I've ran it @ 320/685 but had some artifacts in 3DMark2001. I can get over 13,000 in 3DMark2001.

Thats what Ive got on my card, and even with RAMsinks (prefitted) it woulndt go past 616Mhz. Its TSOP BTW.

I put a rack mount P4 cooler on it and RAM sinks. The cooler moves enough air that it cools the RAM on the bottom side. The other day I ran 3DMark2001 with it @ 320/680 and hit 13288 if I remember right. When I bought the card from Newegg people that had reviewed it claimed they were getting over 700mhz on the RAM. It's by far the best card I've had but as cheap as the 9800 Pros are I think I;m going to get one next week.

Wow, thats really good. Perhaps I ought to reapply my RAMsinks (they were factory fitted, with thermal tape) and then get a fan blowing over it. I think one of the things that is limiting me is the power circuitry, because If I leave the core at default, the memory will go higher but overclocking them both reduces the max mem overclock.

Yeah I thought the score was pretty good. Until I saw on Futuremark's site that someone got over 21,000 points using a TI4200! FSB seems to make a big difference. His was at 270. I feel so inadequate now.

I have an ASUS V8420 TD 128mb (non Deluxe), comes stock with no ram sinks, the ram chips are Samsung TC-40 chips rated at 4.0ns. The default clock speeds are 250/444 and i have mine running at 285/500 (500MHz is Default speed according to Samsung Specs), that matched with my P4 2.6c @ 2.85, ASUS P4P800s (i848), 256mb Corsair XMS3200 @ 440 CL2.5-3-3-6, and me pci/agp is running at 36/72, I GET A SCORE OF OVER 13,000 (13,200?)(thats with nvidia v44.xx drivers in Windows 98se) - is this a good score?

Also - my ram and gpu run really hot, perhaps around 50? is that bad? im going to either get ram sinks or something, and how far can i push my card?

That is a good score, but to be honest its only that high because you have such a good processor, and most modern games depend on the processor very little.

<A HREF="http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7454540" target="_new">Yay, I Finally broke the 12k barrier!!</A>

With that ASUS V8420 Ti4200 with the memory aparently going upto 700mhz - i believe thats the 'Deluxe' edition, it has faster memory, the main apearance wise diffrence is the purple PCB. Is that the one your talking about? The standard V8420 TD cant go that much past 600.

Correction on my 3DMark - i get a score of 13,000+ when i clock my processor @ 3.25GHZ / 1GHz FSB, and the Ti4200 @ 285/500. I returned my CPU Down to 2.85GHz and Up'd my Ti4200 to 312/533 and got a score of 13,153.

How much better would a FX5700 Ultra be in comparison to my Ti4200? Im eyeing off a Albatron FX5700 Ultra - the memory's stock speed is 1000mhz, and has some pretty sick cooling, would it be worth it???

http://www.3dxtreme.net/index.php?id=albatrongffx5700ultra1 - the review with pic's of the monster - IT HAS 3 FANS.

My PCB is yellow/tan. I wouldn't buy the 5700 Ultra. I'd get the Ati 9800 Pro. I'm not sure where you live but in the states Newegg has it now for $215 and free shipping.

And it can reach clock speeds of 300/600 and above???

I took out my video card and sanded and polished the base of the HSF to a shine and applied thermal paste. Im not sure of the speed it could reach, but it runs fine at 312mhz - it gets dam hot at that speed after a while, but runs fine... Dam fine - 13,200 3DMarks dam fine.

How far could my card go?

Also - has anyone read about the new NV40 and its performance aparently being atleast 2x better? I also heard samsung admited to supplying 1600mhz DDR2 to nvidia for the NV40 - dam! thats some fine memory!!!
