I have recently purchased a computer for my mother, i got the Gigabyte GA8PE800 motherboard, 512mb Hynix PC3200 ram, and Intel P4 2.4C and a Geforce4 MX440 video card. Okay here's the problem, i installed everything, properly i think, then plugged the power in, turned it on. It boots, sort of, it only shows Geforce4 MX440 video card, Nvidia, 64mb ram, and so on, all the info on the video card, then it stops there. Won't go past that, so i can't even get into bios. I only have the mobo/cpu/ram/vga installed, it's still not getting to the bios screen. I think there are two possibilities, 1. the motherboard doesn't officially support 800FSB, (i think it's the Intel 848 chipset) but it says supports 800FSB when overclocked. 2. The other possibility i think is that the power supply's not enough? the case came with a generic 300watt psu. Please help, I really need to get this thing up and running. Thanks.
These are the troubleshooting steps i've tried.
1. installed New ram, PC2700 Samsung 256mb ram.
2. Installed FX5900 video card
problem still remains, except this time it freezes at the Leadtek FX5950ultra bios screen, it finishes the video card memory test, then refuse to go beyond that.
3. Took the CPU and ram to my P4P800, all booted up fine, but the 2.4c didn't like overclocking though.
4. Banged my head against the wall, running out of ideas.
5. Stared at my PSU, and the trillion wires it has, got a headache decided not to try changing PSU.
Has anybody ever seen a problem like this? Turns on, detects video card, then freezes?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
