Hello!I'm new in forums and need some help.
My system: Athlon 2500XP+ ASUS A7N8X-E DLX KINGSTON 3200 256x2 120Gb Seagate MSI 5200FX 128T
I want to overclock my cpu.But the best i can do is 1980Mhz.
My bios settings are:

CPU EXTERNAL FREQUENCY :180
CPU FREQ MULTIPLE SETTINGS :AUTO
CPU FREQ MULTIPLIER :11.0X
SYSTEM PERFORMANCE :USER DEFINED
CPU INTERFERENCE :OPTIMAL
MEMORY FREQUENCY :AUTO
RESULTING FREQUENCY :AUTO

xSDRAM ACTIVE PRECHARGE DELAY :6
xSDRAM RAS TO CAS DELAY :2
xSDREAM RAS PRECHARGE DELAY :2
xSDRAM CAS LATENCY :2T

FSB SPREAD SPECTRUM :DISABLE
AGP SPREAD SPECTRUM :DISABLE

CPU VCORE SETTINGS :AUTO
xCPU VCORE :1.65V
GRAPHICS APERTURE SIZE :64MB
AGP FREQUENCY :AUTO
SYSTEM BUS CACHEABLE DISABLE
VIDEO RAM CACHEABLE DISABLE
DDR REFERANCE VOLTAGE :2.6V
AGP VDDQ VOLTAGE :1.5V
AGP 8X SUPPORT :ENABLE
AGP WRITE FAST CAPABILITY :ENABLE

CPU is locked. When i change multiplier it doesn't effects current speed.
When i increase cpu external freq to 191 bios doesn't boot when i diseable the halt on option windows doesn't start and a message appears
"file missing" <windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe"
The temperatur observed in asus probe is 44-45 (i dont know if it is normal). What is the limit temeperature that cpu can work safe?
I dont have any information about ram timings. How must i change them?

What means MEMORY FREQUENCY :AUTO? What is the difference between MEMORY FREQUENCY :BYSPD

I'dont have any information about voltage? How must i change voltages and some other values when i increase external clock frequency?
I'm new in this overclocking world and need some help.
Thanks!

Try jumping your Vcore up a notch. Like up to 1.8 tops. You could go higher but better have some serious cooling solutions. I ran into that prob too with my rig but I had to drop my multiplier down to 10 when I broke the 200 barrier. With those locked cpus, its much intels, up the FSB and Vcore till it wont go any higher.

Also increase your GRAPHICS APERTURE SIZE to 128mb and disable the AGP fast write. Also set your AGP frequency to 66

Why disable AGP Fast Write?

AMD XP-M 2600+ @ 2.6Ghz (12x216Mhz)
Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2
Geil 2x256MB PC3200 DDR (2-3-3-11)
Gigabyte Radeon 9200 128MB VIVO
WD 36GB 10,000RPM 8MB SATA
Maxtor 40GB 7,200RPM 8MB ATA133

Alot of new cards out will not support it despite of driver revisions. Really a useless feature for todays AGP cards.

Notice you have the mobile chip in your rig. Wat voltage are you using at your current setting?

yeah...i just got it last friday...at stock voltage (1.65) i was able to get it up to like 2.4Ghz (11x216)...right now i have it at 1.8 to get it to run at 2.6Ghz...at first i thought it was my PC3200 memory holding me back, but, even at 200 FSB the highest multi i can boot up at is 13 (2.6 Ghz)...so, i guess 2.6 is the limit of my particular chip, maybe i'll get more after everything is burnt in... if i drop the multi to 11.5 or 11, i cant really push the FSB any higher than 216 and keep everything stable, i'm probably limited by my PC3200 memory...after reading the reviews of Geil memory, i'm pretty surprised i was able to push it to PC3500 and still keep the tight timings.

by the way, all this is on air cooling (thermalright slk-900 and 92mm vantec fan) and my temp under load is still pretty low (about 48 C). i was pretty amazed when i first got the chip and just kept pushing the fsb higher and higher without even upping the voltage. i started with the multi at 11 and 200 FSB...booted no problem, and then i just kept going up to like FSB of 216, on stock voltage.

oh, and, i also did the pin mod for the socket to make my MB think it was a 200 FSB chip instead of 133...that may have helped too.

long story short...get one of these chips if you have $100 to spare, i'm glad i did.

hmmm...i think i'll go home tonight and see if turning of the AGP fast write gives me any more OC...i still want to try to get it up to 2.7Ghz, that was my goal when i got the chip (hopefully at 12.5x216). i think i can once everything gets settled, and i do some more tinkering.

Could you show me that pin mod?

hehehe...thinking of getting one too? umm...i'm a rookie on this board, so i don't know how to post a link, but, heres the url:

http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?/ [...] inmod.html

change the first drop down box from "cpu view" to "socket view", and the last box from "FSB selection" to "200MHZ FSB". it should show 2 lines on the diagram. what i used to connect the soceket holes was 2 sinlge strands of wire from a standard wire, each cut about 1 cm long. just bend it in a "U" and drop it in the socket holes. then put the CPU in and lock it down. when i booted up my computer, it automatically booted at 200 FSB...i had the multiplier set to 11 already from my old locked barton 2500+, so, first time i booted with the mobile chip it booted right to 2.2Ghz, no problem, stock voltage, the system totally thought it was an XP 3200+.

heres a link to another thread that talks about this if my description isn't enough for you...

http://forums.amdmb.com/showthread [...] did=298163

why anyone would ever buy a locked 3200+ for $200 more than an unlocked XP-M 2500+ i'll never know...
