Hi all. I bought a Thorton core 2400xp to see if they are as overclockable as people say, but they don't seem so.I can't get the FSB to run anything near 200Mhz. It tops out at 150Mhz with a multiplier of 15, giving me 2250Ghz with Vcore at 1.75v. performace is fine but I would like to get the FSB up and lower the multi. Where have I gone wrong? I thought this was a Barton core and should run at 166Mhz although default is 133Mhz.I have not closed the L2 bridge yet. Do I need to do that first? I have 512mb PC3200 Kingston ram fitted and seem fine.

Think of it
The "fastest" cpu that AMD has is 2800+, 166x13.5 or 3200+, 200x11
Your Thorton Core 2400xp won't run at 166x15=2500Mhz, or 200x15=3000Mhz, which is almost/IS impossible for an Athlon
You need to lower multi for sure

Well in that case its most likely an issue with your motherboard or Memory then.

The last XP2400+ I got was locked in one direction: It would allow you to raise, but not lower, the multiplier.

thats pretty stupid of amd, since they claim to lock multis due to people remarking cpus, yet they allow them to increase the multis to do so, weird.

If it isn't a P6 then it isn't a procesor

It could be a compatability issue. Not all boards allow you to set the multiplier anymore. And not having a lower limit can make the multiplier fall through, I saw that with a PIII ES.
