Why dont you read the replies in the thread you posted a few days ago. Or better yet, read some of the thousand threads in this forum to see what people's opinions are. Or hell, be adventurous, walk into a store and buy a game that looks fun.

Play Half-life, I would suggest buying the platinum edition2. You can get it at newegg.com for $25 with free shipping. Then you can also play team fortress online and counterstrike. Without having to download them.
Half-life is one of the best games ever!!
Then again maybe you should mention what kind of games you want to play.
Sports, action, etc etc.

You might start with some games that have proven to be very popular such as:
Deus Ex
System Shock 2
Max Payne
Half-Life

There are also arcade-type games. Go to http://www.realonearcade.com/ and download the player. This will allow you to download and play hundreds of games for free. The "free" games are demo's, so only the 1st hour, or five times you play is free. After that you must buy the game to continue to play it. However, with so many games you can play for hours and hours without having to buy a thing.

XP 2000+
MSI KT3 ULTRA-2 KT333
Maxtor 60GB ATA 133 7200RPM

ABIT G4 Ti4200 OTES 64MB

start with pong and pacman. after you get your fingers warm, try some mario bros, when you get into the heat, try some wolfenstein 3d and jack jazzrabbit. then its a good time for quake and starcraft. when ure just about to quit, try some tribes 2 and neveriwnter nights. and at the end, try that leaked doom3 and planetside.
