Hi, flashed the BIOS on my FX5900 to turn it into an FX5950. Seems to work OK and the card dropped a full 10 degrees after the flash according to Coolbits. Only problem was that the card was artifacting badly in 3D - then (in desperation) I upped the AGP voltage (from 1.5 to 1.6). The problem was still there but to a lesser degree. I've ended up winding the voltage all the way up to 1.8 and now everythings running sweet - temps havn't risen and no artifacts. Anyone know of a downside to upping the voltage to the AGP slot?

Besides potentially toasting your card, cant think of any.

Mobile Barton 2500+ @ 2420mhz 11x220 1.7v
Asus A7N8X Dlx 440 FSB
1gb Geil GD pc3500 Dual Channel (2-3-3-6)
Segata 80gb SATA 8.5ms seek
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro(420/720)

Yep, tested it before flashing and it coped with the speed. Just wondering what the long term effect of this much voltage night be. Saw one post claiming I'll be lucky if it lasts a year running this much juice through it - a year sounds long enough to me, never kept one card for much longer than that before! Coolbits says the core is at 34 degrees - it doesn't jump much after running 3D games.

Fixed! (hopefully). BIOS update on the mainboard - running sweet at 1.5v and feeling much more confident!

Cheers fellas

You can find coolbits here:

http://www.overclockers.com.au/techstuff/a_coolbits/

this adds overclocking control within nVidia's display properties. Be careful out there!
