I'm thinking of getting a new PC. The one I have in mind has these specs:

PROCESSOR: 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3770 processor (3.40 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.90 GHz)
OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows 8, 64-bit, English
MEMORY: 32GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz – 4 DIMMS
HARD DRIVE: 2TB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive 6.0 Gb/s
GRAPHICS CARD: AMD Radeon HD 7870

Will GTA IV run smoothly with these specs?

Smooth as Silk..These specs are more than the recommended requirements:

OS: Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / XP - Service Pack 3
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz, AMD Phenom X3 2.1Ghz
Memory: 2 GB (Windows XP) 2.5 GB (Windows Vista)
18 GB Free Hard Drive Space
Video Card: 512MB NVIDIA 8600 / 512MB ATI 3870

Your Computer Will Rape GTA IV. But Then Again Many High End Pc's Don't Perform Well With GTA IV Because It's So Badly Optimized. But If Anything Try The "commandline" Tweak For GTA IV. :)

Yeah try the command line as KiidPolo said and do the update to 1.0.4.0 or if your going to play online 1.0.7.0 you will see massive improvement in fps and should really lag. ;)

Badly optimized? GTA IV just runs fine on my GTX 680. GTA IV can be played maxed out on the GTX 660 Ti too. However, the only AMD card I have ever used was the HD 7750.
It was not bad, that's all.

gta should in theory run very well but in practice it doesnt.
reasons?:
badly optimized.
doesnt like new hardware.
doesnt like old hardware.
you can have a great pc and it will still be choppy because its so badly ported. even with patches i will get better fps on it than some 1 with a new build that is better than mine. yes you can tweak it but really you shouldn't need to.
oh and it doesnt work on windows 8. so even if you did get it running on your hardware your o.s would break it.
upgrade to windows 7 and forget windows 8 till at least service pack 1.

If this is purely a gaming rig, then the i7-3770 is not necessary. The i7 series have Hyper Threading (HT) capabilities. Games do not use HT so you are basically spending more money than is necessary.

A Core i5-3570k will do just as well and since it is a "k" model, you can overclock it to potentially improve gaming performance.

This better be a joke! Of Course GTA IV can be maxed out on the 7870, I do think that 'ImNotStevie' is playing a joke upon us. The 7870 is a powerful card. GTA IV can be maxed out with any mods such as IcEnhancer on the 7770 itself then just imagine the power of the 7870. I myself use a GTX 660 Ti.
