I don't do much with networking so I have a few questions. Firstly, I have a Netgear RT314 router currently just hooked up to my main PC but will also hook it into a second. Now I currently have a DeskJet 5550 but this thing is terrible for printing documents, so we're going to buy a laser printer. What devide can I buy to which both printers connect and it connects to the network so the printers aren't connected to the computers?
Also, what is a good, inexpensive laser printer?

You can get something like <A HREF="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000030067/qid=1057123326/sr=-9/ref=sr__9_etk-accessories/103-0049809-7439078?v=glance&s=electronics&n=281407" target="_new">this</A>. It's a print server that plugs into the network, then the printer plugs into it. I think they are universal, so any brand printer should work with it. Just search Amazon for different brands and see which one gets the best customer reviews.

As for laser printers, I'm not sure. My mom bought a Hewlett Packard Laser Printer about 12+ years ago and the thing still works awesomely, so that may be a brand worth looking at.

What you want is called a <A HREF="http://www.comready.com/printerserver.html" target="_new">Print Server</A>.
They come in single or multiple ports costing from US$25-200.

Question 2.

When it comes to laser printers good and inexpensive are usually mutually exclusive, but from my experience:
Lexmark is cheaper, but you may have issues.
HP is more expensive, but they're high quality.
Just remember, the price of the printer is inversely proportional to the price of the ink.

That's what I found with my DJ5550L:( I checked out print servers, seems like d-link has the best deal. Any reason to go with a $15 more print server from netgear b/c I'm using a netgear router? Doesn't seem to be a reason but who knows.

If its for home use, get the cheapest POS you can find.

Remeber it'll use an RJ-45 port, so you need one free, and some of em only have parallel ports for the printer. Make you get a USB one if it's USB you need.

I found the oerfect one w/ 2 parallel. The laser porinters seem to be more expensive than I expected- hp is like 200-300, but I'v never had a very good experience with that companies printers either, not sure if I want to shell out the money for another pos. How are samsung printers, I see them a lot?

It's got a built in webserver with it so you can manage your printers through the internet.

I've noticed that a lot of laser printers are 600x600 or 1200x600. Is this good quality? Kind of skeptical...
