Well, I am pleased with the stability of my Asus 9800Pro 256, I've heard that the 9800's would freeze in Halo, but I have not hade that happen yet. But the problem is overclocking, the Asus cards, all of them from what I can tell from reviews, dont' overclock verry well. I can ony get it to 396/730, which is pretty low oc. I would appreciate any opinion on weather or not I sould RMA the board and get 285 of my 335 i put into it and go with a BBA ATI 9800P 128 with Thermal Take Giant III cooler for ocing with 2 year warranty or keep the card?? I'd appreciate an OPINION on this matter. Thancks in advance.

As for the freezing.. they must have been smoking crack. Luckily nearly 90%(*) of halo players are a bit on the slow side when it comes to computers, so i wouldn't trust them.
I've played halo since release and haven't had problems with my video card.
As for the upgrade, you will not notice a difference in the potential OC of a different card. But if you are like me and you're insane you probably really hate having a card that just can't go farther.
You should get your money back, buy a real ATI radeon with Samsung memory, then choose your own GPU cooler and slap it on there. You can buy a 9800pro for 200ish dollars.

Finally, someone who said it plain an simple. I was thinking right along those lines, yes I am insane too. Muhahahhahha. I enjoy the high oc, but I can tell the difference in some games like Halo when the freamerate diff is between 29 and 35, that 6 fps makes all the diff in "Unoptamized" games like Halo. Most of them are actually pretty strange, I did notice that, lol.

Well I guess you could wait for 3 more weeks when NV40 comes out or 4 more weeks when R420 comes out. Then upgrade.

-AMD Athlon64 3200+@2300mhz -3x512 Hynix PC3200 ram@192mhz 2.5-3-3-7 -Albatron 5900PV @ 509/1000 -SB Audigy -Adaptec 1210SA Raid -2x120G Seagate SATA150 7200.7 HDD Raid0 -Enermax 460watt psu

HALO freezing was fixed with a Catalyst fix, and even the last MS patch for Halo.

Funny thing is it happens on ALL the top cards (FX59XX and R98XX), but didn't affect the R9600 series).

I crash issue with Halo? Never ran into that. Must have been a driver issue at the time.

If you can only get up to 396 with that card then that is pretty damn pathetic and would not doubt that there is a defect going on. I would be that even in stock settings that you would get issues. May not be getting enough voltage to the core or the AGP voltage on the mobo needs to be upped a little.

Never had problems with the saphire, ATI, or Hercules 9800pros. Should into those.
