Flashto XT vs OC to XT

Is there a noticeable difference between flashing to 9800xt from ocing to 9800xt speeds on a Radeon 9800pro? Havent done it yet and wanted to know before doing it and take the chance. Thanks...

Addiarmadar I think you know the answer to this. Read my post on flashing, it addresses the issue.

Simply put the answer is this. For r350 cores, YES there is a performance boost with the XT BIOS compared to running XT speeds on a Pro BIOS. For r360 core 9800 Pros, I don't know for sure. Do you know what core you have? I'd like someone with an r360 core to try XT speeds on Pro, and then flash, and see if their 3dmark 03 goes up, cause I'm curious.

Yeah i have an r360 core and before flash, when it was a pro ran it at XT speeds and got 5,900 on 3dmark03 and after the flash got 6,000 on default XT speeds so it makes a difference, and besides i saw the biggest increase in performance im games anyway like Far cry and was able to oc it more.

I think this might be to do with the XT bios running the memory timings lower?? which is what u mentioned in ur article.

Speeduk has a 9800pro with 360 core and it gave him a 300 point boost in bechmarks going from the pro bios to the xt bios.

I may flash my card eventually for it is stable right at the XT speeds with no snow in 3dmark03. I also bet that I will get more voltage to the core which I probably need to better OC speeds. I just need to find the best XT bios and a good flasher. Know of any?

My new card seemed to have good success with the XT bios

9800Pro bios (380,340): 5710
9800Pro bios (412,365): 5978
9800Pro bios (432,378): 6214
9800XT bios (412,365): 6390
9800XT bios (432,378): 6658 and fewer artifacts than the Pro bios at 432,378

432, 378 was max OC on the Pro bios, haven't found the max on the XT bios (it is greater than 432,378, however).

My system: P4B 2.66GHz, 1GB PC1066 RDRAM, IWill P4R533-N, 2x 36.7GB Raptors in RAID0, SoundBlaster Audigy1 (gotta replace), other HDDs for storage, optical drives, blah, blah, blah. P4B 3.06 w/ HT is in the mail currently--can't wait. Oh yeah, my card has the R360 and 256MB Hynix 2.5ms, for reference.

That is a good show there, just keep an eye on that ram at those speeds. You have that r360 core Id expect wat you have accomplised so far. My r350 core will probably be more resistent but will find out how well the core take the additional juice as soon as my ramsinks come in.

Dude, I don't actually keep it clocked at those speeds...those are only to showoff. I have yet to push the core, might try it this weekend.

It great to go from at least se to pro but to xt and up I would want one with a 360 core then I will go "w00tz"

Im in the process of looking for one but not the r420 is about to come out soon and would REALLY drop the prices of even the 9800np for me to get one of those a light-up a silicon barbeque.

Give it some time Saphire will eventuall use the 360 core on all 9800 pcb when the 420 goes into mainstream. I cant help but wonder if some other oem is using the 360 already on thier 9800 PCBs.
