So I was watching Army of Darkness on SciFi channel. There's this awesome scene where the bad guy says "You're good Ash, I'm bad Ash" as Ash is the good guys name. So I was watching it, and the stupid network censored out Ash! How gay. Spoiled the whole moment. Stupid bastards can't even do their jobs right.

I hate the way non-premium channels censor movies, it's so painful watching them. Thankfully, I have Encore, which shows the movies that either didn't make any money, or made money 10 years ago. Either way, Encore kicks ass, love the movies they show

I was watching The Rock on USA the other night, and got so pissed off. Every other seen was a very crappily dubbed censor. I don't mind having silence as bad, but when they try to replace "Winner's go home and f*ck the prom queen* with "Winner's go home and date the prom queen* it sucks, especially when "date" is said in a completely different tone

It's all good ^_^

I've heard CLICK censored in a song b/c it sounded a lot like CLIT.

Although I realize mentioning about 50 Cent here isn't the most accepted singer, his song Wanksta, got censored at the word pop, cuz he says: "You said you a gansta but you neva pop nuttin'"
How sad.

Or the Snoop Dogg song that orignially goes "Smokin indo, sippin on gin and juice" is censored to "smokin, smokin, sippin on gin and juice" because indo is pot, so you can't say that. Gay.

The worst I saw was "Casino" on network. Truly sad.

Has anyone seen the "Mr. Show" (that older comedy show on HBO) parody of Goodfellas called "Pallies" where it was aired on the Sunday Sunshine Picture Show, where it was edited to all hell. That show was so hilarious the way they fake censored out the material, and would just cut huge portions out. Comedy gold. I have it Tivoed so I watch it whenever I need a laugh. "Mother father Chinese Dentist!!!"

Yeah I agree with you, censorship is kind of annoying, but it doesn´t beat dubbing.
I watched an episode of Futurama in Spanish a week ago or so, my lord that sucked.
I mean, the producers probably took alot of time in trying to get the right voices to the right characters and then some fool replaces them with something that is everything but close to the original.
Luckily we don´t dub movies in Sweden, with the exception for 'childrens movies' but they come i two versions, one original and one dubbed.

Hey, Comedy Central is allegedly airing "South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut" uncut July 5-8 at 1AM Estern.

Best line from the movie:
"I don't trust anything that bleeds for seven days and doesn't die" (or something to that effect)

Celebrating cultural and moral decay on Independence Day. Go us!

P.S. Yeah. Encore showed all the Dirty Harry movies unedited.

You think that Spanish dubbing is bad? Wait until you see French. Here in Canada the province of Quebec (the only one with a majority of french speakers) has a law that all dubbing must be done in Quebec, not out-of-province. This gives a virtual monopoly to one or two companies. Monopoly=low quality. It's so bad that most of the french speaking people I know will rent the english version of a movie. Even though they can't understand everything that's said it's still way better then the cr@ppily dubbed french version.

However for TV there is no escape.

The sound effects are off cue, the voices don't match the characters at all, and because it frequently takes longer to say something in French than in English you'll sometimes have one character still speaking while another is moving their lips.

You ain't seen funny till you've seen cr@ppily dubbed french porn.

On the other hand, they use subtitles for the Osbornes and don't bother bleeping out the spoken english cuss words.

Over the past few nights Comedy Central has been playing South Park the movie uncut and uncensored. There's just something refreshing about hearing the phrase "shut your f*cking face uncle f*cker" on television. Couldn't you imagine that movie censored? I don't think it would be possible and still have the same movie in the end.

I like beeps in some programs and films. Makes it more funny. Too much swearing is never the sign of a good production. Swearing at the right moment or in the right situation is fine, but to go at length to create situations for swearing is boring.

What I don't understand about broadcasting censorship is the outlets (like MTV and some of the Chicago radio stations) that almost stake their living on songs that they choose to bleep half of them out. If you take rap music (which seems to be MTV's biggest hit right now) and remove every reference to drugs, sex, violence, and every N word, what is left? You ask Eminem to come to your award shows, but tell him not to swear, knowing that he will, and that you will have to censor it.
And some of the choices of words to bleep really surprise (and upset) me. When I am singing along to a song, I don't want to have to guess whether I am going to be the only one singing the next word. In "Cowboy" by Kid Rock, there is one part that goes "I'm gonna paint his town red, and paint his wife white". The white gets cut out. I just don't get it. Maybe at 27 I am too old for MTV... Whatever. Just bring back Remote Control. =o)

What's a signature? Oh, those words that show up after all my comments? I don't need one of those!

Reply to JustPlainJef

You see about the latest Foo Fighters video? It's some cheesy home video type thing of Dave Grohl and Jack Black (I think) in a hotel room, looking like rednecks and trying on women's clothing and wigs. Typical Foo Fighters parody thing. MTV refuses to play it. Said it crossed the line. But, oh, you can turn it onto rap stars having sex in hot tubs.

Or, you can turn it onto that Real World show, and watch all the people in the house getting ripped and screwing as much as possible. But no Foo Fighters video? Whatever.

I agree, sometimes beeping is funnier.

But generally it annoys me some things are censored for no reason.

Do you have some stars you just LIKE to hear their F words? I do, people like Chris Rock and Joe Pesci. Man they are hilarious when they say 'em. Something about the way it's said.

I also found that some films seem to be OBLIGED to have the F word thrown in ONCE at least, (consider it wasn't used more than once in x film) as if it's some norm or rule in Hollywood. I've found that in various films where it was put in for no reason other than to somehow conform.
Then you got the pointless usages of them. I notice some scenes in movies feature such swears, but you feel like it wasn't needed, it was almost a show-off scene!

A good example of the above though, is in one of the Die-Hard movies, the one with the airport lock-out. The black guy (or brown-skinned one, I can't recall) who operates at the ATC Tower, IIRC was trying to help all along, was nothing but innocent and nice. Only at the end, when a good event occured, you'd hear him throw an F word in there. I couldn't help but feel it was a "made-on-purpose-for-some-pointless-reason" that wasn't needed. Anyone out there gets what I'm trying to say?
