I currnetly have the SLK900A, and I am tempted to sell it to a friend and upgrade to an SP97? What type of results can I expect... I am running an overclocked (Duh) mobile barton 2600+ on an ABIT NF7-S.

Depends on how smooth I am... I am thinking at most $10... maybe $20... but is it worth tearing apart my computer and taking out my motherboard... and the whole bolting the heatsink on thing is new and scary to me, but I am sure it make sense once you look at it up close...

I am at 54c or so at load--with my smartfanII at 3800 or so... cranking it up to 4600 or at max gets me down to 49/50ish, but at a noise cost... and it is only Spring... even though I live in Washington, it does get hot here too... Of couse, I am running a mobile barton at 2.5 GHz... but will I notice an impact from the SP97? If not, it may not be worth the trouble... and slowing down to 2.4GHz still rocks all my games...

The SP97, if you have your case standing up, vertical, then temp difference would be minimal, like 3C max, horizontal, or lying down, you'll get about a 5C difference, since then the heatpipe's being used properly.

Thanks... my case is vertical... it does not seem worth it... the counter my case is on is actually very high up in the air and in a corner... perhaps I will lower it closer to the ground where I feels much clloer... but doing that will be as much trouble as taking out the board... I can live with 2.4 GHz until October or so... I will have to work on getting my fsb above 211...

But I'd rather snap the socket out, it's fun to watch, and hearing the thudding sound of the copper heatsink falling and snapping AGP/PCI cards on its way down.

Do you mean the risk of transporting your computer...
