I just bought the MSI 865PE Neo2-PFISR board, after reading THGC review of MBs, although the actual board reviewed was MSI 865PE Neo2-FIS2R the board I got met my needs and fitted budget better. Ok that asside....

I have
P4 2.4Ghz 533 FSB according to Sandra its P4 C (I can't find the box)
Radeon 9800 Pro
Antec 450 Watt Power supply (also rated in THGC)
Cheap Powmax case (I know, bad idea, that is why I got new Power Supply)
And Kingston PC2100 Value Ram

Obviously I have to upgrade the Ram.. Since I want to over clock this new MB. But I read customer reviews saying that Kingston Hyper X that is advertized at CL2 actually runs at Cl2.5 so although I am normally a Kingston guy I think I should consider other alternatives.

Here is what I am considering:
(all 2 x 512MB modules)
1) Corsair XMS Extreme Memory PC3200 They are advertised at 2-3-3-6 1T and only cost $132 a piece.

2) Kingston HyperX PC3200 Advert as 2-3-2-6-1T cost $140 a piece but the customer reviews scare me.

3) Kingston HyperX PC3700 but advert as 3-4-4-8-1 and I am not sure how my board would take it. It says PC2100 to PC3200

Obviously im open to an alternative that does not cost me too much more then $140 per module

Also suggestion for a good fan under $50 that can help overclock and keep my motherboard cool would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Crazy Dan

LOL, your board can support up to PC4400 right now. If they ever release PC5000, it will likely support that too. PC3500 is simply PC3200 that's been tested to reach higher frequencies. PC3700 is the same story.

With a 533 bus CPU, DDR400 (PC3200) gives you pleanty of room to overclock. If you plan on upgrading later to an 800 bus P4, you'll probably want even faster RAM if you would continue overclocking.

Make sure you check out the MSI forums here. Kingston, Adata Vitesta, OCZ, and Muskin have all run with these boards. The only problems have been trying for extreme low-latencies at high FSB's. Get the best stuff you can afford. If you plan on using D.O.T., load CoreCell before doing any overclocking. If you overclock first, CoreCell might mistake that for your default speed and crank you into the stratosphere. One guy said it raised his Vcore to 2.1V and melted his CPU! I don't necessarily buy that, but the general advice is to stay away from D.O.T. and do it the old fashioned way. They have supposedly fixed this problem along with the missing HDD activity LED on your version of the board. Keep me posted, if you would.

OCZ PC3700EB is coming to Newegg at $248.00/GB. Put your order in now so they can E-mail you when it hits. It will go fast at that price!

Thank you for laughing at the newb Crashman :)

Ok using Kingston as example, but with all of the memory.
Between HyperX PC3200 With very low latency
Vs.
ValueRam PC3700

They are almost same price, would it make any difference, now or in long run?

So basicly between "ultra" version of any ram and the higher rated "value" version from same brand which would you recommend?

Thank you,
Dan

I can guarantee you that the OCZ PC3700 will run at 2.5,3,3,7 on your MSI board. The less you overclock, the tighter you can get your timings. I've got Mushkin PC-4000 now. It is rated at 3,4,4,8. I have run it at 2.5,2,3,6 at 225mhz FSB. If I crank it closer to it's rated speed (250mhz) I will probably have to raise either the vDIMM or the timings. The OCZ PC3700EB will run the same speed with LOWER latencies. It's "what to buy right now". The value ram like Samsung PC3700 will hit it's rated speed, but it will be slower and less flexible in it's timings. Buy the way, do you have a Northwood or the new 2.4A Prescott CPU that was just incorrectly identified? How much cache memory is on the chip?

I have the original Northwood 533 FSB 2.4
Sandra Says (SiSoftware)
L2 512kB ECC Sync ATC(8-way sectore....)

Ok I guess OCZ it will be! Do you have a serial number or model name? Is this the one you mean http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=140792

Everyone else seems to be sold out. I also take suggestions of stores :) that one is $250 for the kit

And for the love of god, someone tell me a good fan to buy for under $50 that will allow me to make this puppy go 2.8 or something resonable. Performace more important then noice.

The stuff at Monarch is just performance grade. You want this. It won't last long once it hits, so go for the gold! Your stock heatsink will get you to 2.8 easy. You want to be like me, buy this and lap it.

i think you cannot upgrade your ram to more than DDR 333(pc2700) because , your cpu fsp is 533 not 800.
by getting a Kingston HyperX PC3200 you will waste your money because your cpu is not compatible of D.O.T
