I'm getting a new PC build.
Safe to say I've chosen everything to my liking but I'm just confused between the GPU.
A 690 or 7990?
According to you , which one is the superior one if i want it only for gaming and video editing?

P.S Sorry for the misunderstanding everyone , I meant to type 7990 in the first place.

Definitely get the 690

The GTX 690 is a dual GPU card while the HD 7970 is a single GPU and costs a fraction of the price.
Not a fair comparison really.
And still the HD 7970 is far superior in terms of GPU Computing.

No offence man but you didn't answer his question, not everyone has £660 to spend on a graphics card. I spent less than that on my ram, cpu and graphics card combined.

Plus, every time i see your post in a graphics card related thread, you always suggest the same thing, rather than catering to each person...

Hi :)

It was a very specific answer... his two cards are NOT comparable...the 690 and a 7990 ARE comparable...although the 690 is a weaker card...

All the best Brett :)

I know exactly what you mean, to get a similar performance, you would need to Xfire 2 7970s.

However, i just don't think the 7990 is worth it. To power it, you need a behemoth of a power supply (£130+), it takes up 3 expansion bays and requires 3 8 pin pcie connectors.
The 690 only needs 2 8 pin pcie connectors, only takes up 2 expansion bays, and you could get a power supply for under £100 to power it.

If money isn't an issue, then either the 690 or the 7990 would be great. And if OP is looking at the 690, it obviously isn't. However, i still feel a 680 or even a 670 would suffice.

Lol, I use to be AMD from the 1650x pro up to the 7870. Got Sli GTX 660 SCs and I don't think I'll be switching back to AMD anytime soon. :)

I hope the 700 series is at lease 30% better than the 600 series counterpart. Will def be selling my 660s. :)

:) :) :) All the best Delta. :)

Yeah I actually went from a 680 to a 7970m. haha trust me, I wish I could have stayed with the 680, but I had to get a laptop, and the 680m are outrageously expensive . My 7970m actually performs EXCELLENT. Its just the drivers and support SUCK... I will always go Nvidia from now on, glad I got to try amd though. Always have wanted to :D

Next desktop build I do though....... Nvidia4life! :pt1cable:

Hi :)

You may have a long wait... I spoke to my graphics card suppliers yesterday, and they said a MINIMUM of 6 months, possibly up to a year for the Nvidia 7 series and only slightly better for the AMD 8 series....

All the best Brett :)

:) :) Yeah, I had the MSI 7870 and after a few updates things got CRAZY. :) :)

Then I found out about this great thing called 3D and Nvidia's shuttter glasses are the best. :)

Ended up passing on the 3D stuff for now but I love how games look with MSAA, FXAA with Nvidia :)

:) :) :) :) All :) the best :) :) Delta :)

Yup! I had a triple monitor setup in Nvidia surround with my 680... SO AWESOME!

Hi :)

As a normal person I appreciate your view, but as a retailer, we sell a LOT of NEW cards, WHENEVER THEY ARE RELEASED, ...:(

Delays that long, lose me money :(

All the best Brett :)
