Guys check it out, and tell me what you think.
It won't be on all the time, since i'm still using my main comp as the server, i'm just waiting for a KVM switch for my server computer, then this will be on 24/7, that will happen sometimes during this weekend.

thx
Scott

It must be cloaked cause all I see is the link to your rig on the initial post. Is it somewhere in that mess of data hidden in a corner or something? :>)

ok ok ==I see it now this is just the thread to talk about the guide which is locked and out in its own post. Ok ok, I get it now. That makes sense so the guide doesn't get all cluttered up and all. Sorry I am a noobie to web/forums/chat etc. I am gonna have to check the guide out. It looks cool.
ps f-you :p jk

Yea, actually I think I saw that yestday and looked over it a bit. Can you post the newbie instructions for where the hell to unzip the zip files to to run the memtest? I downloaded it to run it on this computer just to see if this old memory was on this old computer was screwy. More or less just to test it out for future use. But it looks like it wants to go to C:/unzipped by default --is it gong to self extract from there or wtf do I do with it?

*thinks computers are stupid as hell*

Is there a "zip files for noobez" guide somewhere?

Why is everything always clearly labled except for that one step I have no idea what to do??? It's like... do a. then b. then c.... then a miracle happens..then do d. and you you are done.:>) *rant rant rave--arrrr
*hey I know I am an a**hole but..gotta stick with what you are good at, right? :>)
peace

I guess I should just unzip it and look for a readme...wasn't all that invested in it at the time though...the ocing guide looks cool though--I am learning something new. thanks scott

For memtest86, you get a floppy disk, make a bootable disk, then extract the files to your floppy.

Ok scott, I know this is a uber newbster question and I am embarrassed to ask it but...can you give me the step by step from -downloaded file to -making the bootable floopy?
where do I unzip the file to and then what...exactly? after that is it just something I am going to run overnight to test things out or am I going to have to mess with all those dos commands?

*"THE file is in the computer".....*breaks computer*...."I don't see the file".... zoolander

A. Download the f*cking file
B. Insert floppy disk into the f*cking floppy drive
C. F*cking Open My Computers or Windows Explorer
D. Right click f*cking A drive, then press format, then click the option make f*cking bootable disk
E. After the f*cking bootable disk has been created, extract the downloaded Memtest86 files onto f*cking A drive(the floppy)
F. Now just go into the f*cking bios, set first boot floppy, then the program will start on boot.

Ok now i hope you f*cking understand.

Sorry i'm in a bad mood, f*cking shltty day at work.

No i'm just f*cking around, errrm... i mean joking around.

No f***ing kidding, lol. I buy formatted floppies this decade but thanks for the rest of the info:<)
Yes, I really am that much of a noobster...
See all I need is full time tech support and computers would be a breeze, lol.

*ok I see what you mean about formatting the disk now--so it will boot--hence a "bootable floppy" ok working on it---I think I should rethink my new computer build and take some computer lessons instead.
Sorry, lol, I know you are gonna go ballistic when I ask this but......
------------------
Right click f*cking A drive, then press format, then click the option Right click f*cking A drive, then press format, then click the option make f*cking bootable disk

-------------------
I don't see the option "make f*cking bootable disk" anywhere. Or for that matter make a bootable disk. I have windows 98 what should I be doing?

*I tried screwing around with making a couple floopies but didn't figure it out. I did get pissed when my floppy drive started going crazy and locking my system up trying the options. They make good frisbees by the way--not too durable though if ya wing em pretty good.*
When are they gonna make computers like on star trek when you can just tell em what to do and they will do it? My dog can do that why can't a computer?

ok it says
quick
full
copy system files only
then it has a blank fill in area under "label"
and three check boxes
no label
display summary when finished
copy system files
Edited by Zeekfu on 06/06/04 09:11 PM.

Ahh shlt, i don't remember how win98 works...

You'd better get XP for your new comp, since win98 doesn't handle more than 512mbs of ram.

I'll post the procedures for 98 when i remember, or if somebody else does it.
