Gateway nabs Best Buy exec


Gateway announced on Monday that Scott Bauhofer will become senior vice
president at Gateway and oversee the company's direct sales business.
Bauhofer comes from Best Buy, where he served as senior vice president of
online stores. He will report directly to Gateway President and CEO Wayne
Inouye and replace Erik Gerson, who will be leaving the company.

Gateway has been refashioning itself rapidly since the eMachines merger
closed earlier this year. Nearly every major executive position, including
CEO, has been changed, and the company is reducing its employee count. Staff
numbered 7,500 at the end of last year; that's dropping to 2,000. Although
Gateway's consumer electronics sales continue to climb, the company has
reported several quarterly losses over the past three years.
