What does a 9800 pro to XT actually do?

Hi, I've been having an argument with some guy on another forum about an XT BIOS flash and I wanna make sure I understand everything it does.
He says the XT BOIS doesn't increase voltage to neither the RAM nor the core. I say it does.
He says that the XT BIOS never lets you overclock further.
He says that the R360 doesn't have a thermal diode and can't tell you the temps even with an XT BIOS, unless you have a 256MB DDR2 9800 Pro. (this makes least sense to me).

BTW, I removed the IHS off my Intel P4 2.4C yesterday and it was a lot easier than I had expected. Temps are a lot lower, about 9C lower under load. (though I did clean my heatsink while I was at it).

Behold, Mine anger and My fury shall be poured out upon this place upon man and upon beast and upon the trees of the field and upon the fruit of the land and it shall burn and shall not be quenched

it does increase voltage
so o/c is increased.
I dont know about temp sensor

How?? I've been thinking of doing the same to my 2.66B and 3.06B.

EDIT: NVM, I decided to give it a try on my 2.66 w/o a guide--it is quite easy in fact. Too bad I have no thermal grease...otherwise I'd do it on my 3.06, too.

Oh yeah, to answer your question about the BIOS...it also changes some latency in the memory to make it work faster. This is why the 9800Pro BIOS on a R360 at XT speeds will get lower FPS than the 9800XT BIOS at stock speeds on an R360.

My ASUS 9800Pro 256MB NON-DDR2 (yes, it is DDR) has a thermal diode (R360) which works with both the stock and XT BIOS. I also did achieve a higher OC on the XT BIOS by a considerable amount (only on the core, however).

Only the XT pcb has the temp diode on it. None of the pro card, 350 or 360, will give the sensor when flashing.

Yes the XT bios increases voltage to ram and core and normally give a 10mhz boost to your current pro max OC.

I think a boost to the mem is more common than a core boost. And its not a forsure thing that you will get a boost.

The XT BIOS definatly increases voltages to either the core or RAM, because I got snow in the nature test of 3Dmark with the pro BIOS at XT speeds. But then when I used the XT BIOS there was no snow.

Well not every one will a higher overclock with an xt bois. With a 360 core i would say your chances of a higher overclock are better vs a 350 core.

Ohhhhohohohohoh yeah did I get a boot in my mem. The BBA cards dont go cheap with their ram and got the good stuff. Before my flash, I got up 740 on the ram and after the flash, I got up to 800 without issues but I do keep it at 790 most of time to not push the card to far unnecessarily.
