I have an Intel D865PERL board, I heard that they won't let you OC. Is this true? Is there anything I can do to change this besides getting a new board?

Cant you love without the intention?
Edited by hurleyskate284 on 07/14/04 11:01 PM.

In a word, no. If the options aren't there in Bios there's not much you can do about it. :frown:

Abit IS7 - 2.8C @ 3.30 - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power

Intel has a software overclocking utility, it allows very small overclocks.

Is it something akin to clockgen?

I believe so. It's been out for around a YEAR now, I'm surprized you haven't heard of it. I actually had a link to it back in the days when the compatable boards (Intel's 865 and 875) boards were a scarcity! Yes, Intel had it on their server back then, it's probably still there if you look hard enough.

Edit: Got it, I just need a little help with some terms, since this will be my first time messing with anything in BIOS or anything...

What is SDRAM Frequency?
Right now it's.. 266MHz, it can go up to 400MHz.

What is CPC Override?
Its on Auto right now, I can disable or enable it.

SDRAM CAS Latency..
I know what this is, it's at 2.5 right now, should I lower it to 2.0?

I am certain now that I am
Vindicated, I am selfish, I am wrong
I am right, I swear I'm right,
Swear I knew it all along
Edited by hurleyskate284 on 07/14/04 03:30 AM.

Next time you buy a board get a Asus, Gigabyte, MSI or similar.

Intel are lousy overclockers but very reliable. It's obvious, they want you to keep upgrading your CPU regularly.
