i have a AN78X deluxe 2.0 MB and Corsair XMS PC2700 ram. my cpu is a thoroughbred Athlon XP 2600+. i can only get my FSB stable to 173 with 3 sticks of ram (error free in memtest). windows doesnt boot if i set my FSB to 200 even if my vdimm voltage is 2.8. i thought these ram sticks were overclockable=/ if i up the voltage of my vcore will that help me get to 200FSB? my multipliers are set to 12.5X173

Im not a amd expert but i think the thoroughbreds have problems getting to a 200 mhz bus with a barton you would have a better chance. But yes uping voltages usally helps in acheaveing a higher overclock

the guy who doesn't know AMD's is right...t-breds can't get up to 200 FSB...its just not in their capabilities.

my t-bred 2400 can get to 190FSB but no higher. it would be nice to go higher...but thats why amd made barton. t-bred hit its limitation.

I've got a book of matches,
I've got a can of kerosene,
I've got some bright ideas involving you and me.

See if you can sell that t-bred to someone and buy a 2500+ mobile which will hit 200 and will have an unlocked multiplier. These chips sometimes can hit 2.4 or higher but most can hit 2.2

Many t-breds can get to 200FSB and beyond. My 1700+ is a t-bred B and Does 205FSB no problems, and even that I think is a motherboard limitation rather than the CPU.

What multiplier are you using at 200FSB? (assuming your CPU has an unlocked multiplier). If you're leaving it at 12.5x then it's no wonder it won't boot, as that would be 2500Mhz  . The only Athlon XP that has a hope of doing that (Without very extreme cooling) is a Mobile Barton, and even then you'd need a fairly good example.

I have heard that Corsair XMS 2700 will happily do 200Mhz with a good voltage bump, and they certainly should go more than 173.

Assuming you're sticking at 12.5x, what CPU voltage are you using? You'll need to bump that up too if you're trying to overclock.

Don't forget to ensure that your AGP bus is locked at 66Mhz as well.

UPDATE:
i have discovered that corsair xms memory doesnt like to overclock with mixed revisions of ram. i use 3 sticks (pc2700), two of which is rev 3.1 and the other is 1.2. i took out the rev 1.2 stick and i achieved 200FSB without a problem. however, now im stuck with 512MB of ram instead of 768. even though i finally was able to run at 11x200, i feel that 512 ram isnt enough when im playing games. its just not as smooth. looks like i might have to invest in some expensive DDR400 memory:(

I second that. 512MB uses the paging file quite a lot...

I've got a stick of 256Mb Corsair XMS PC2700 that Won't play nicely with the 512Mb I have currently (in the sig) :frown: .
Even if I set FSB to 166Mhz & lax timings, it's not happy. Similar problem I guess..
