Hi guys. I am hoping someone here can help me solve my problem. I have 2800+(XP) barton processor running in a gigabyte GA-7VAX-A motherboard. I have done everything I can imagine to make it run upto atleast 2800(thats what i thought i paid for). This processor is only running at 1837MHz. After doing research I realized 2800 is the maximum it can go even after overclocking.(?) So can some one please help me make this processor go faster. I have changed the FBS so it runs at 266/333 Mhz. I have changed the dipswitches on the motherboard so it runs at 18X. All this has done is improve the speed from ~1200-1837 Mhz. Is this all it can do? Can I make go faster? If any one can give me any advice I would greatly appriciate it.

Thanks
Jas

This site indicates your chip should run at 2083mhz <A HREF="http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=amdcpu" target="_new">http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=amdcpu</A>

AMD uses 2800+ to help compare to an Intel chip. Because the amd is a more efficient archetecture, it is said an amd running at 2.083 equals a P4 @ 2.8

Since your chip runs at FSB speed of 166, your normal multi s/b 12.5 to reach 2083mhz. BTW, 1837mhz is the stock speed of of a Barton 2500+ IIRC.

Your chip must be from last year (and prolly b4 week 39) cuz the newer ones are locked and the multi can't be changed.

If your multi's is at 18 and your speed is 1837, your FSb must be 100. Cuz the math is: FSB speed X multi = cpu speed

Bottom line: set your FSB to 166, your multi to 12.5. Ensure your cpu is running at 2083mhz. Then increase your FSB slowly, testing for stability with Prime 95 or other similar proggie. Increase vcore (voltage to cpu) if needed to attain stability.

You should be able to to 2200mhz (the speed of a Barton 3200+), but you'll never reach 2800mhz on air cooling.
