Oc'ing a 2.8 or a 2.6?

I'm planning out a system to build and I do not want to spend way to much on a processor. I plan on using an Abit- Is7 mobo and some XMS 500mhz chips at CL3. I am looking for a speed of about 3.4 to 3.6Ghz on the overclock on Air cooling. I plan on using a cooler from Thermaltake with a fast fan (noise is no issue). Should I buy the 2.8 or the 2.6 to OC with? Is the ram I plan on using the best for the OC? I am not sure on what Air cooler I should use; so any recomendations would be great there.

Thanks.

Aircooling use the Thermalright SP94, or the Coolermaster Hyper6. Thermaltake's absolute crap compare to those companies.

2.8 is definently the way to go. And remember to get the C version, not E.

I like the looks of the coolmaster cooler. What fan should I use with it? Any thaught on the ram? Do I need extra cooling for the northbridge?

Yeh go with the 2.8, the IS7 should reach 250mhz FSB with the stock northbridge cooler no problem. 250Mhz FSB will give you 3.4Ghz CPU with a 2.8 and 3.25 (like me) with a 2.6

Follow Scottchens' advice. he's right on the money! See if you can keep your CAS down to 2.5 at speed.

I'd go with the Corsair PC3200XL, then you could do some performance comparison, 250mhz at 2.5-4-4-7, or 200mhz at 2-2-2-5, stick with whichever gives better performance.

The problem is you might not be able to get the 250FSB, 3.5Ghz is definently a push with reasonable Vcores.

I will get some 500mhz CL 2.5 chips, hows that? Also, 250fsb is not a big deal. I can settle with 3.2ghz. I just want to break 3.0 with out the extra money involved. Does the CL realy make a huge difference from 2.5 to 3.0?

Mabie it is a bit pointless if I have to spend a ton of money on ram. But I will have to check prices, but performance is performance.

Ok.. I found some OCZ 2.5 500mhz chips. They look nice and have good reviews.

It turns out that I will be saving about $120 going with this set up over a 3.4 with the 400 CL2.5 ram
