I have AMD XP 2500+ (overclocked to 3200+) in Asus nforce2 dx motherboard. I don't like the cpu temperature that i'm reading ... so i decided to buy a new heatsink/fan. (53C in normal operations, 61 in full load.) Any advice?

Today heat pipes are the way to go. Make sure what ever CPU you get is a heat pipe design. Most people prefer the Thermalright heatsinks. Becareful though and make sure a heatsink will actually physically fit on your motherboard.

I personally use a Gigabyte 3D Cooler Pro, it keeps my temps under control. My chip is a 2800+ overclocked to 2500 mhz.

I use a Vantec Aeroflow on one of mine. Bought it back in Feburary for about $25. It's pretty popular- very easy to install and came with a really nice smooth finish on it. No need to lap.

Otherwise I've got a SLK 947U (got it on sale for $20, but you still need a fan), one of those all copper thingies. Better cooler, but more work to install.
