Well i was wondering whats the best way to overclock this video card, i mean i know that the NVIDIA driver doesnt allow you to do this so what about in the bios setting? now i was wondering if im gonna have any problem doing this cuz the Geforce FX 5900 Ultra 256 mb card that i have is an actual Engineering Release NOT FOR PRODUCTION, thats what it says when i boot up my pc, yeah i got it from a friend of mine that works at NVIDIA so please if someone can help me out with this ill apreciate it.

Thanks

I'm not sure but, I don't think the engineering card will affect anything. Generally most people use RivaTuner for overclocking video cards.

It's pretty easy to use, and works great.

I was wondering the same thing myself. I have an EVGA GF5900 Ultra 256MB. Default clock speed is 450/850.

The detonator drivers don't have any means of you to overclock, but after doing a little web surfing I found a neat little registry key you can add that gives you a tab in your video card properties allowing you overclock it.

The registry key is located at

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Nvidia Corporation\Global\NVTweak

If you add a DWORD in this key named Coolbits with a value of 3 you will get the new tab allowing you to overclock, so really there is no application/program necessary to do this from the way I see it.

When I overclock my card to 475/950 it seems to run fine while playing games (maybe a little better but I couldn't really tell) and it doesn't get too much hotter than the stock settings.

Unfortunately, 3DMark05 doesn't agree with this. At the default speeds I get a score of around 1207 and when I overclocked it to 475/950 the score went down to 1198. I don't quite understand why this would happen though.

If you can use the coolbits registry key to overclock your card, what exactly would be the benefit of upgrading the BIOS to 5950? I'm not sure of the answer myself, but I am willing to chance it to see if it will increase my 3DMark05 score.

According to the NVidia drivers (6.6.9.3) the "threshold" for my card is 127c but I am not sure if that is an accurate representation. Not knowing what the proper temperature readings for this card are, it is difficult to say whether or not my 3DMark05 scoring problem is heat related.
