Northbridge Heatsink

For some reason or another the Gigabyte 7n400Pro2 board I got last week isn't exactly the same as the one I got six months ago. Anyways the new board doesn't have a fan on the northbridge and I have two other spare heatsinks with fans (off of previous Gigabyte boards).

So if I clean off that thermal tape stuff, can I just apply a thin layer of Arctic Silver? I am not sure since the chip isn't exactly metal.
