You don't have to install the 61.77 drivers (actually RivaTuner doesn't fully support them anyways), but I would recommend always using the latest drivers.
RivaTuner will allow you to overclock the card, it will not do it automatically. Its not that difficult, obvisuly pretty much stay out of the advanced stuff.
Open up RivaTuner, if you are using 61.77 drivers, just ignore the error message. On the screen click the arrow tab where it says Forceware detected, and click on the picture of the video card (first icon). Then check the box that says enable driver hardware overclocking. Note that you have a drop down box that is default at 2D Performance, make sure on each overclock you go through all three of those choices, and make sure everything is running at the same speed (For 2D Performance, low 3d, and high 3d). Then make small increases to the core and memory speed, 5 or 10 mhz should do the trick (It wouldn't hurt to up your AGP voltage a little in BIOS also). After you make the adjustment click test, then apply. Then change the drop down menu to one of the 3d choices and make the same adjustment (I believe the memory setting stays the same for all, but the core speed is idependent). After you change your settings click the OK in that window, then under one of the tabs in RivaTuner there is an option that says send to taskbar or something at close, make sure you do this, or when you click OK in the main RivaTuner window, it will close the program, and your card won't be overclocked. You should get an icon down by the clock after you click OK.
After each 5 or 10 mhz increment, benchmark, using AquaMark3 would probably be best, just becuase it doesn't take as long as 3DMark to run, either will do. If everything is ok, and your score is going up, increase things again. You will reach a point where your scores go down with increased speed. If this happens decrease the speed to the last "stable" setting that you had. Then try and raise the core and memory speeds indenpedently, you will most likely find that one is still capbable of overclocking a little further. On my 6800 nu, I can't remember for sure, but I think I was somewhere around 390/780 range.
Its best not to set RivaTuner to run at start-up until you find a stable setting that you like, after you find the right clock speed, then you can set it to run at startup.
Oh and my instructions should be close, but may be a little off, on buttons and such, as I am on my laptop right now, and am not in front of my desktop, to actually check it. Should be close enough to give you a basic ideal though.
