Hello,
I got online recently and all my games are experiencing huge fps drops of around 30 or so. This is the second time this has happened and I haven't changed any of my hardware or software recently.
My specs:
Intel i7-2670QM @2.2GHz
16GB RAM
64 - bit Windows 7
Nvidia GT 555m

Could you describe the drops in more detail? It's hard to understand what's happening from your current description.

My fps has dropped. It doesn't fluctuate. For instance I usually play Minecraft at around 60 fps, now it wont play in the 2 digit zone hence I'm getting >9 fps. All my games are playing at a stable 20 fps now as opposed to 60.

How do I do that exactly?

Well, download MSI afterburner and install it. Then, launch the game and start playing it until it lags. Then, minimize the game and start MSI afterburner. Once that is done, play again for a bit (a minute or so) and then check the graph in MSI afterburner for GPU usage.

Under Master Graphics Processor selection it says there are no devices available. I believe my GPU may not be working at all or being used whatsoever.

Alright. Could you close all the games, then right click the game that is lagging for you and select "Launch using high performance NVidia graphics processor"?

My GPU usage stayed at 0% while playing and while not. It appears my games are not utilizing my GPU but my PC is recognizing it as it can be seen in device manager.

What game is it? Try right clicking any other game and set default graphics processor to be GT 555m for different games.

It appears selecting my Nvidia GPU to be used only has allowed use of it and the usual 60 fps for games. While my HD graphics will not be used in the process I'm fine with this. For the most part my issue has been solved. Thank so much for your time =)

Hello again. I've walked into another issue. When gaming my GPU load is under 25% it spiked once to 84% but for the most part it's functioning now - for instance - at around 18%. Consequently while my fps it has increased it's still sub par. This appears to be with most games but not all. I have been able to play BF3 on 50 fps but that is it so far.

What is the CPU load when gaming?
m

50 - 77%
It really depends if the game can use multiple cores.

Looks like either you're running an extremely CPU intensive games or you're running something in background that shouldn't be running. Let's start with game names.

BF3 is the only game atm that can run at full capacity.
Planetside 2 is runing at 15 fps.
Battlefield Play4Free - 15 fps
Minecraft (with some mods) 15 - fps
System Idle Process says 50 - 60 under the CPU category in the task manager.

this is normal now dude. your not alone. the pc gaming indsutry is dying for this reason. Consoles have the focus for these game developers.

2.2ghz is not enough for most online games. especially mmos.

developers don't know how to program for dx11 or multiple cores.....(bf3 has made the only true attempt to date) so the main thing that affects your fps is core clock speed.

you need at least a 3.4ghz.....for a semi decent experience. Intel preferred for the better IPC and favorable optimizations by developers. (except for cod, the only game that amd outperforms intel in)

Thing is All these games were getting between 40 and 60 fps before. A few days ago they just stopped performing.

really!?!? in what game?

theres no way your gonna get that on ps2 dude. people that can run bf3 at 125 fps on ultra...are only getting 30 fps in ps2...lol

but did you do a recent windows update? fan come loose.....heat problem? reapply grease? clean out dust?

you say this is the second time. how did you fix it the first time?

i dunno what to tell you. i'm having issues with mmo games right now. and the only guys who dont' complain about issues have like 3.5 to 4.5ghz processors and crossfire ...lol.

try system restore to a date it was working.

In Planetside 2 I get 30 - 40 fps.
Last time I just re installed my graphics driver. Didn't work this time. The problem is my computer isn't using both my graphics cards and it's only using 50% of my Nvidia one. Only on BF3 am i getting m usual 50 fps.

i've had no luck at with virtu, on bf3 I went from 60ish to 5-6fps when I enabled it, but my discrete card was being used. don't bother is my opinion.

I'm in The Enclave so big fights are common place. In those I get 20 fps. I have my built in HD graphics 3000 and a GT 555m. My computer switches in between the 2 cards but now it's not using the correct one.

I would try just disabling the integrated graphics card from bios and use the dedicated GT. or vice versa.

try clean removal tool to uninstall and reinstall the driver.

did you check your temps?
