I've just got a 9700 Pro and have started overclocking but the card seems to max out at about 340/340. Do I still need to flash the BIOS in order to allow overclocking on this card or were the R300 cores just poor overclockers? The card is a hercules model so is already fitted with RAMSinks and I have removed the shim and replaced the TIM with some thermal paste.

Any help would be appreciated!

Overclockability varies wildly from card to card. My friend's BBA 9700P only made 340/335 while my Powercolor made 420/350 ...go figure. Hercules makes a pretty good card, so I'm not really sure what is going wrong. What program are you using to overclock?

Those numbers are close to the ones I was getting a few months ago on a BBA 9700 Pro... I had high hopes because of he great R300 core on my Sapphire 9500np modded to 9700np, running awesome at 360+ speeds... but this particular BBA 9700 Pro did not do so well... I sold it to my brother-in-law and bought a BBA 9800 Pro... that card had great ram, though, and I wondered if a volt mod could have helped my ram do better... I even had a copper heatsink on it...

350 is about the cap for the 9700 series but you probably need better HSF solution on the core, wat is a "TIM"?

I got a 9500pro do 405 on the core with the softmod drivers and the vga silencer installed.
