Lately, I don't watch much other than a little ESPN and American Chopper on the Discovery Channel. That show just rocks.

I watch Road Rules and The Real World religiously. I live my life vicariously through the casts of those shows.

I like to chill on Much Music and some shows. I'd say 2 hours per day or more.
True about the fact there is less to watch, but there are always precious channels or shows.

Oh if only Family Guy never ended... :frown:

maybe 30 mins a day, though occasionally a few hours.

Ever since i got my PC ive found the stuff on TV drivel mostly, dividable up into discrete categories;

A. Imported American sitcoms with innane forced Laughing.
B. Imported American drivel (donahue, rikki lake etc)
C. Local home grown drivel (discernable by miniscule budgets and crummy plots)
D. hollywood movies (What?!?! The geeky guy got the cute cheerleader in the end?!?! what a suprise!!!)

So i really only watch TV for the news... SBS (world news) or the ABC (governemnt funded channel news) by prefrence.
Or the odd startrek/B5 episode, when they decide to air them before 2 in the morning.
Or maybe an education documentary. - The secrets of the ancients/ david attenbrough are allways good.

I don't watch TV since 2000. Only watch when there's a very special show or a live cricket match

Four to Six hours per week in the fall and winter.
I don't watch much TV in the spring and summer.
I like to watch Law and Order series of crime shows. I also like the CSI crime series.
Most of all I like the Sopranos.

excellent.

TV offers nothing benificial nowadays i find. maybe the odd documentary or nature show (Law and Order is an exception of course)

have you ever watched someone watching TV?

blank glassy stare. and with laughing anger sadness and suprise all on cue. if you watch long enough, it looks almost like brain washing

when i have a child, i will not have a TV in our downstairs. i might have one upstairs for them to play video games on if thats what they desire, but NEVEr will i do what people are doing today which is using it as a parenting aid.

my brothers and sisters watch on average 5 hours a day. that is discusting, and its not as bad as some households. ive heard of parents who have turned off the TV and miraculously behavioral problems have disappeared or lessened

Now don't generalize Phial, this is no longer how TV affects us with prolonged use. Fact is, most households use less the TV now.
Most of us who do watch it, will watch for 2-3 hours mostly per day. None of us feel hypnotized, we simply enjoy watching. If you were to criticize the fact we have a blank stare, you should then go back when TV was invented and blame it, because it's only natural you're focusing on what you're watching. Sure, then you got couch potatoes who indeed are in their own world, but I ask you again to not generalize as TV has INDEED LESSENED its importance in the household. We could easily begin to blame PCs for making us stay hours ya know?

true good point

i DO spend 12-18 hours a day **EVERY** day on a computer

and i imagine i have a pretty blank stare

the difference is that im doing things I want to do , not something programmed by a TV station.

But why else would you watch TV nowadays? Is it not to find something you like to watch?

Sure, you got the bored status, where you flip channels with no hope. But according to those who watch TV here, they seem to really know and like what they watch.

As for "doing things" you like, unless it's Richard Simmons' push-up hour, there ain't much you do while watching!

Internet > TV

When I move out I don't think I'm even going to order cable. The only thing I'll really miss watching are the Canucks games (played on the radio and at every bar around). I can download any episode of any show that I really care about on the internet and watch it at my leisure without commercials anyways.

Besides, I've sat down to watch TV a few times this week, and flipped through all the channels twice to find nothing on.

Some day I'll be rich and famous for inventing a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet.

Not much really. About 2 hours a day max, but 1 hour of that is news (30 mins national/30 mins regional. Need to get the football news). Might be something else I'll watch afterwards, but not usually. Mainly I'll spend part of the evening on the PC and then I might read for a while.

About the only current programme I make a real effort to watch is 24, apart from documentaries etc.

unless you have cable, then you get a whole lot more of what you dont want... especially reruns of 20 year old sitcoms!

You don't get commercials with the BBC. Ironically, 24's 24 1 hour long segments last 45 minutes on the BBC!

That's perfect. That's roughly how long they are. With commercials that show is ruined imo.

Totally agree, 24 rocks. That is one show we can admit that really puts TV back where it belongs, a place for watching real entertainment.
Show has suspense and holds you on for real.

SPOILERS BELOW, IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED WATCHING THE SECOND SEASON:
