Verizon wireless has the best service in my area, but is there a way to get
verizon wireless service for less than $40/month?

Or the "pay as you go" service without the $1/day fee?

Some markets have minimum usage local plans in the $20 range. Check with a
local VZW store or call sales/customer service.

You're apt to get more mis-- than good info here....along with being
vilified for looking for a low usage plan;-)

I believe all markets have a CS available only plan, usually about $20-$25 a
month. Something like 100 minutes, with long distance, and no
nights/weekends. It isn't a good plan, but if you really need a "lite"
plan, this could be good for you. Cheaper than pre-pay, but not near as
good as a regular plan.

Call cs this way: I have a plan, it isn't working out for me, I need a plan
that costs a bit less than the $39.99, can you help me. Usually this will
get you a CS provided option only. It may extend your contract.

If this doesn't work, (although it should) a "feint" is to follow the CS
links that you are going to disconnect. This will get you to that "special"
group that has some options to offer you a deal to keep you. Both groups
have the same capabilities, so the call to CS is the most straight-forward
(my suggestion), or the "hard way" threatening to cancel (rather you didn't
try this option). dr

Don't threaten to cancel. Just call 611, be very nice, and ask the CSR if
you need to do anything special to take your number to XYZ Cellular so you
can take advantage of their 1000 minutes/unlimited N&W/free LD/free phone
plan for $22.95/month. When I called nicely, like this, and told them I
wanted to port my number to Alltel, I thought the post office was going to
have to hire extra mailhandlers and I was going to have to rent a drawer to
put all the special incentives in. Churning seems to wake them up...(c;

No threats...not necessary. Just call 'em, lay the cards on the table and
ask them to beat the deal. If they refuse, you didn't want to be their
customer anyways and can take your number with you...(c;

Gotta love that number portability...

Depends on where you are and who you ask. In New York Metro area teh
lowest advertised price is $39.95 but you can still get a 300 min
$34.95 if you ask for it

If you only need a few minutes then pay as you go on Verizon is not so
good fromwhen I talked to them they charge on $0.99 per day just to
ahve it.

You can get a CDMA Tracfone which I"ve been told is resold Verizon
network but other may be abel to verify that

they do have a plan, not a contract, a straight 25 cents a
minute, nothing else except the taxes, it's the other pay as you
go, no monthly charge, just 25 cents for each minute.

Verizon's cheapest plan used to be the "emergencies only" plan. $15/month
for 25 minutes, 40 or 50 cents for overages. They had it as recently as last
summer. Don't know whether they still have it.
