i have been playing on a 9800gtx since 2011 december....
i do own a 19inch led monitor and play preferably at 720p hd resolution .....
tbh at that resolution this card has been performing like a charm ever since.....

(i played metro 64 player map in bf3 at ALL ultra settings with a MINIMUM frame rate of 29 on 720 p)......
but crysis 3 is forcing me to change my gpu...****

but i am on an extremely tight budget and i can at max afford an hd 6670......

i know this is not an upgrade....lol...
so do ou guys think i should change from a 9800gtx to an hd 6670 just for crysis 3......???

(remember that my dad is not paying a single penny more than the cost of an hd 6670 1gb ddr3.....so no suggestions like save for a better gpu)
pls help....

Solution
Dude my 9600 GSO overclocked is almost identical to a HD6670, All your card lacks is direct x11 but the HD6670 is like a downgrade in performance compared to the 9800GTX my advice is to keep that 9800GTX until you can afford a better card like a GTX660ti or a HD7850 cause buying anything lower than those 2 will be a side grade more than a upgrade

so I am guessing your budget is around $100? I doubt you will get smooth frame rates on C3 on any video card for that price... unless of course you go low settings on everything, but still you probably wont be getting constant 60 fps...

Since C3 is Dx11 and if you wish to go with AMD, I would recommend an HD 7870... it is a $200 card and is pretty good bang for your buck. What CPU do you have?

oh well......we have a reply here.....!!!!
i am very well aware with gpu benchmarking...hence i know that thete are undeniably awesome gpu's in that 200-300$ range....

if u have read my post, i clearly stated that not a single penny more than hd 6670.......

so should i go for the hd 6670 just for crysis 3 knowing already that my present gpu outperforms it in terms of dx 10????

thats my question , basically.....
pls dont suggest me buying costlier gpu's coz simply my dad wont allow.......(its just and just the 6670)
thnxx for ur reply though.....

Do not buy the HD6670! its not worth it.. Your GPU at the moment performs somewhere between the HD7750 and the HD7770. Just lacks DX11 Ask your dad to hand you the cash for the HD6670 and just save up for a better card. You'll be wasting money if you buy the HD6670

If we had a specific budget/country to work with it'd help. Different countries have different pricing structures so "the same price as a HD6670" doesn't mean the same thing everywhere.

What people are saying is true, to the main part. The 9800GTX was the daddy in its day, but its day was 4years ago. A HD6670 might have a better chance of running it due to advancements in tech, but fundamentally speaking its a weaker card.

Drivers will be better since then, but as you can see the 6670 is likely to barely manage even at the lowest settings. A HD7750 or HD7770 is likely to be a far better entry level choice if you can find one in your price range.

yeah.....i knew it.......
so it seems i would have to skip crysis3......haha..
bioshock infinite is arriving.......lol.....and it thankfully supports dx 10

btw my rig managed a stable 35+ frame rate on farcry 3 on that resolution and ALL settings pumped to ULTRA.......(2x msaa)

so the 6670 is a mere downgrade......thnxxx to all

I wouldn't bother if you can't afford a real upgrade. Maybe the 460 ($100 on NewEgg)? I have a 260 and really haven't bothered looking into the specifics of other cards in that tier.

The 9800's are great cards. Really sucks to be in that spot.

I'd probably still be on an 8800 if I didn't have heat issues with my old card (mostly because I lost the fan control for my Zalman GPU cooler).

I'll be on this 260 for awhile yet, too.

it means that u too are are going to skip crysis3....i'm with u brother....

we both have similar situations....
1) both have a good gpu capable of blowing the doors of any game at 720p....
2) both have a dx 10 only gpu.....
3) both are happy with their cards performance
but this crysis 3 is knocking at our doors to
upgrade....
4) we both have decided to better keeps our
doors closed.........lol......

well...then i too instead of downgrading my gpu, have decided to continue till i can extract playable framerates from this card....

thnxx to all yet again...

Yeah, aside from maybe finally sticking an SSD in my rig, I don't plan on doing any hardware upgrades until Haswell comes out and I get an idea of what hardware I'll need for Unreal 4.

Luckily, I have no interest in Crysis anyway :D
