I like to over clock my XP 2000+ on my abit
AN7 Mainboard (bios version 1.7).
What is the safest and highest overclocking can
I can get by adjusting the voltages, multiplyer
fsb,etc.
I have a 400 watt power supply,Thermaltake Volcano 7+ cpu heatsink,512 meg 333 mhz Samsung
Memory, MSI Geforce4 4200 with agp 8x vivo.
I will be changing to a better case with better air flow at a later date.
I would be gratefull for any tips that can help me increase system performances(including any bios tweaks)

Those Palmino cores do respond to OCing very well. The Palmino cores have locked multipliers so forget that. Make sure you have adequate cooling and try to slowly up the FSB from 133 to 166. You may have to up the vcore in the process since instability will mostly likely occur. Make sure you monitor the temps. After 166, make small incriments of FSB to see if you can do 200 which I really doubt but see how high you can go with the proper vcore applied. When you add more vcore, do it in .25 incriments.

Before you do the OC I really think you needs to get a better HSF like a pur copper heatsink or even water cooling with that Palmino chip.

My cpu heatsink is pure copper based and the fan on it can go up to 6500 rpm using speed limiter that came with heatsink to 4500 rpm (middle speed)I will follow your instructions, my cpu idles at 33c (I live in South Africa and summer is just starting here todays temputure was 28c and in winter cpu idles at 20-25c)

That should be good but keep an eye on the temps and work you way up slowly. After a month or so on a OC setting, you may be able to get it higher then.

Sure they can. I had a butt-load of 1600+ chips that most could have been pushed to 166 with a descent copper HSF. Just past that is an improbability.

Really? I thought only Thouroughbred-B core and above could easily do 166FSB...didn't know that Palomino could do that too, cuz according to this article, the max they pushed is 153MHzFSB with watercooling..

Heheheh sucks to be them I guess. The Palomino Ive had could do 166 with little problems but of course not all the same.

My old palomino 1500+ did 166mhz fsb after I unlocked it's multi and put it down to 9. I had major liquid cooling on it. I don't remember having any probs w/ it.
