I have a 600mhz Pentium 3 with 4W4SB0X0.15A.0013.P08 BIOS. It presently
takes only 3 128mb module for a max od 384 mb ram. I thought that I have
seen reference to a BIOS upgrade that would alloe 256mb memory module. Can
anyone help me direct me to this upgrade. Thank you.

Your BIOS should be fine. You MUST use a low-density module (16 chips). An
8-chip module won't work, nor will a 32X4 module -- it must be 16X8.

The going rate for a low-density 256 MByte PC100 or 133 SDRAM module is
about $100 - much less than that an it'll be high density.

I am curious. The large vendors such as Micron (Crucial) don seem to offer
this when I inquire specifically about the Gateway Performance 600. I think
that was them that suggest some of these models do take more.
Thank you again!

I have a performance 700. I just bought a 256meg dimm from Crucial per Ed
Neth's advice and it works fine. You can just order memory for a Dell
Optiplex GX1 (350mhz-600mhz) and it'll work (and, as it turns out, my son has
a GX1, so that's nice if I ever need to swap memory outta this machine and
into my son's GX1)

Anyhow, the part number is CT32M64S4d7E.16LT -
256mb 168 pin DIMM 32mx64 SDRAM PC133 module.

$95 shipped when I got it in February.
