Heat or voltage?

I just purchased a Athlon XP 2500M and have a question. #1)When over clocking I understand increasing voltage also increases heat. However does increasing the multiplier also increase heat?
#2) Does having the processor clocked as high as possable decrease the live span dramatically even if it stays within acceptable temps?
#3) Or Does simply having it clocked that high with a voltage of say 1.9+ or higher and a FSB over 200+mhz simply shorten the life spany anyway.

overclocking raises the temp, and the heat is what shortens the processor life.
Running outside of maximum heat range drastically reduces life span.
even so, that shortening of life span, with reasonable ocing, is still a long span and is often way past warranty period, so it would not be very valuable by then anyway.

Excessive voltage causes the CPU to burn out (electron migration). Excessive heat also causes the CPU to burn out.

Increasing core speed (by either increasing the multiplier OR increase FSB) on any chip will result in greater heat output, but it doesn't really make <i>that</i> much difference (a couple of degrees or so)... increasing core voltage has a <i>much</i> greater effect on the amount of heat produced, which is why you should always try to run at the lowest stable Vcore for the speed you're running at.
