ocing xp2800 to xp3200 ?? help

can anybody tell me how to do this... so far i've increased the fsb to 184 mhz and it shows 2.3 ghz .. but i want to get it to appear as an xp3200 in control panel > system... can any of you help me? Thanks for your time.

Don't think you can. Hmm, not entirely true. You maybe could do pin-mod or bridge-mod to change it to a 3200, but I've never considered trying it.

See, to be a real 3200+, it has to be 200fsb @ 11.0 multiplier. Your 2800+ is 166fsb at 12.5 multiplier, and the multiplier is probably locked... unless you can do the bridge mod to make it a mobile. but it will probably still say 2800+... or unknown.

While I never thought to do that myself, I have a similar issue - a 2600+ oc'd to 195 fsb (2.25ghz), but it's still a 2600+.

barton 3200 chips need to have the sysclock at 200mhz for both the bios and windows to show it to be 3200+ chip.

I have an Asus A7N8X deluxe, so the multiplier is not locked. So, it is possible for me to change the multiplier to 11. Does anybody have any tips on getting my 2800 to 200 fsb? Has anybody done it? What is your vcore, etc? Thanks

the CPU has the multiper locked.

Read the o/c guide, all cpu's are different so posting Vcore etc aint really gunna help you

I have a Gigabyte 7N400Pro2 Rev2 board, my board sees my 2800+ XP chip as a 3200+ XP when I am near 3200 speeds. Anything faster, just appears as the mhz. My 2800+ XP runs 2500 mhz (well past 3200 speeds), at 200 fsb, with the vcore at a very solid 1.8. My 2800+ runs "stable enough," at 2600 mhz, on air cooling (stable enough meaning, the computer is usable, but has no hope of running Prime95).

As mentioned before your multiplier is locked, so you will only be able to change the FSB.

What voltage did you use?

My 2800+ XP runs 2500 mhz (well past 3200 speeds), at 200 fsb, with the <b>vcore at a very solid 1.8.</b>

My board with the default BIOS actually won't let you turn the voltage past 1.8.

Something didn't sound right on the math, so I got out a calculator (a rarity for me)... 200x11.5 = 2.3ghz.

Lol, and I didn't have any beers... and I messed it up too...

200x11.5 is 2.3g, but he's talking about a 2800+... that means it's a 12.5 multiplier, which is 2.5g.

My voltage is currently at the lowest setting, which is 6.5 or lower or something.. i cant remember and i dont wanna restart my computer lol. But more importantly, I have kingston hyperx pc2700 ram (2x512mb). This may be a problem as I am coming to find out that I need pc3200. And another thing, it seems that when I increase my voltage even a little, my system will freeze after a while. Any thoughts?

ok i dont think the multiplier is unlocked, because when i try to change it and restart, it will usually not post and i have to restart the system and reset the multiplier back to 12.5 before it posts again and lets me into bios. also you might be right about the voltage setting, i may indeed need to set it up to 1.75. when it freezes it freezes at the desktop. im inclined to think it is a result of overclocking because whenever i clock it down a bit, it quits freezing. One other thing, why do you think the timings need to be relaxed a little? isn't it better to have more agressive timings? and what makes you pick out those specific timings? thanks for your help.

Memory is rated for a certain speed and when it's forced to run at a faster speed, the memory may not be ready for the next step if the timings are too tight for that speed. There's less time in a '3' setting at 200mhz than there is at 166, so you may need to change that 3 to a 4 so the memory can handle the faster clock speed.

Yes, but more mhz is better than better timings. There really is a very small difference between 2-2-2-6 and 2.5-3-3-8 performance-wise, while 2.5-3-3-8 may let you run the fsb 20mhz faster, which will give you 'more better' performance.

and what makes you pick out those specific timings?

Don't know why Wusy picked those exact timings, but most likely because they are pretty common timings, and are the 'next step up' from the tighter timings. If I was to have picked them, it would have been a total WAG.

Yes, theoretically the ram runs smoother with tighter timings. However, what wusy was trying to say is that the benifit of being able to run your memory 20 mhz fast greatly outweighs the benefits you gain from the tighter timings. Try it for yourself, faster ram speeds, thus faster system bus speeds make EVERYTHING faster. Tight timings are nice, but faster ram is nicer!

Ive been trying to do the same thing with my xp2700+, does it also have a locked multiplier? Seems im able to change it freely in the bios, im using a asus a7n8x deluxe.

When you change it in the bios does it actually change or does it say that it changed yet still report the same speed on reboot? If so then it is most likely locked......

Just checked, on boot it displays athlon XP 2200mhz instead of 2700+ , think ill take a look at what windows detects it at next time i mess around with it
