athlon 64 3400+
1 gig of samsung memory
msi k8t neo mobo
bfg gforce 6800oc @ 407gpu & 801Memory

Why is it people with inferior setups bench better then me?

No, seriously, obviously it is simply because they have one of those large tower cases, and we all know SIZE DOES MATTER!!!

OK serious answer.

It is all about Tweeking and Optimum performance.

Most of the higher scoring systems are sitting on a benchtop,no case, loads of extra cooling on video card and processor. Minimum os and overclocked to the max.

System specs do not mean a good machine.

System configuration is where the performance comes from.

Look at the overclocking guides we have here.

Also search for TWEEK Guides
OS Tweek Guides
Memory Tweek Guides.

Rich's useful contributions are few and far between.

Like the above poster said, it's all about optimization!

But, just to check:

You do have the latest Chipset and Video card drivers installed?

Do you have a black case? Because everyone knows black is faster! How about a side window? Lights?

That's not an example of how it is slow...do you want help finding the potential problem in your pc?

Just cannot seem to figure it out I have done a clean install and benched and I still get like 15277 in 3d mark 01 and when I oc the vid card I get like 15600. I orderd the msi kt8 neo2 platnum with the nforce 3 250 chipset so I can try to get my athlon 64 3400 up a bit more.

Hmmm, that is low, but it points to nothing. What about other, more component specific benchies, like PCMark04 or 3Dmark03 or 05.

The MSI K8N NEO is for socket 939 cpus no 3400+ will fit that board unless i missed the release of a socket 939 3400+. PSU's are a big issue with overclocking but as long as the system doesnt crash they do not contribute to scores in 3dmark. One big deal in getting good scores is a clean system and lots of tweaks... clean install no background services running etc...
