I am looking at buying a 6600GT gfx card and have decided between these two:

LEADTEK WinFast A6600GT TDH

ALBATRON Nvidia 6600GT Model:AGP6600GT

I was wondering if anyone knew which one would be better for OCing. I have also heard that the Leadtek has had troubles, as in people have had trouble getting them to work properly, is this true? Any help with this will be appreciated
Thx

Since they both use nV reference design, they should be the same: a crapshoot.

Not an answer you want, but it's the truth, go with the one with the better cooling (if they differ at all).

does anyone know how far the leadtek can be taken by OCing it with the standard heatsink

Vapor is correct, you wont know for sure until you get one. I just looked up my highest OC on 3DMark 05 it was 550/1101 with a score of 3701. I havent really done that much fine tuning, so I dont have a clue how good these numbers are.

To save us both time, assume I know EVERYTHING

I would say Leadtek... although maybe you should heed the warnings you've heard as I do not have personal experience with the Leadtek 6600GT, I have not had any issues with non-6600GT Leadtek vid cards, however, and to date, have owned 2.

I've probably quoted this article at least 10 times so this will make probably 11. Anyway, good way of seeing where they each stand at least from Anand's point of view. A lot of the cards didn't do so well because they were reference boards with bad pre-market HSF's, but I went and purchased the XFX due to its mix of noise-friendly and OC-friendly results at Anand along with other research and have not been disappointed (3500 3dmark05 and 54500 in aquamark3).

Well, I probably should have mentioned that i had my CPU OC'd big time. Doesnt at lest one of those benchies reward hihger scores based on the CPU output? I think that I was OC'd on one of the scores to 3.75 and the other closer to 3.85 At the time, I was really having some issues with clocking any higher than that. Come to find out the reasons had nothing to do with the card, but rather some things I was screwing up in BIOS that were affect the whole system.

Just curious, do you have any idea what the X700 Pro will do in the same benchmarks? And also, do you have to be a subsricber to FutureMark before your scores will get posted so that everyone can see them? Those benchmarks that I listed above were on the page that held the fastes benchmarks in that category. Not the overall 6600GT scores but wtih the same basic setup. I wouldnt mind getting mine posted.

The CPU does surprisingly little in 05. 03 is just feeling a noticable effect now while 01 has been (obviously) CPU dependent for quite some time.

As for how to post stuff, IDK, never done it.

sh*t dude..! Don't buy the Albatron 6600GT, as it is the most noisy piece of hardware ever made, seriously; i would have to turn off my pc to be able to hear my vacuumcleaner with that card installed :p

The Leadtek 6600GT has gotten amazing reviews, I couldn't recommend it more (just as I couldn't dis-recommend the Albatron more ;) )

What do u mean by that?
What brands are good to buy then?!

I have the Albatron, it works fine with all games i run at 1024x768 (even FEAR that is a really power sucker game) BUT it's terribly noisy..
So what the fellow above me said, it's true..

i m think to change the cooler on it.. any suggestions for something quiet?

If you are going to bother getting a 6600gt why not get the 6800gs. the 6600's run about 140 and the 6800gs runs i think 190. I would go with the 6800gs better fps

Hi guys,

I have a Chaintech GeForce 6600GT PCI-E , I have had NO problems with this card what so ever. I know Chaintech is not the best but the card runs very stable at 550/1200 with a Vantec PCI Fan card added for cooling. I get 4000+ makr in 3DMark2005 and 1856 in 3DMark2006 @ 1280x1024.

The card is not very noisy the only fan noisy in my case is the Vantec PCI Fan Card coz it runs @ 4000rpm permanently
