No real "tricks". The ammunation shooting range is one of the hardest
challenges in the game.

Max out your skill with all of the weapons used. (Shooting tires on the cars
parked inside the LV airport worked well for me. Tires (even flat) count as
hits, but don't otherwise damage the vehicle, and the cops stay out of the
LV airport.)

Don't bother with the shooting range at all until you're far enough into the
game that all 4 weapons are used. (If you do it earlier, when only a couple
weapons are used, you'll have to do everything over later when the other
weapons become available (everything -- not just the new ones).)

When doing the shotgun part where there's one target for all three
contestants, don't shoot early before the target comes down and locks into
place (because you'll miss, and by the time you reload, the other guys will
have nailed it).

Try it a few times, then go do something else and try again tomorrow.
You'll get better, and sooner or later, you'll get lucky, too.

I agree with that. You basically have to get the timing right when you share
the target on the shotgun and the AK. Time it right and you beat them to the
punch. Time it wrong and you never get a chance to hit anything. Good
luck...

Are you talking about the shooting range at Ammunation?

I gave up yonks ago with the range, then realised I hadn't tried the
shotgun since getting maxed out, so I did and passed! didn't bother
with the rest though

Right.

Oh. One more small tip. When you're waiting for a used target to retract
and a new one to come down and you know you haven't got many shots left in
the current clip, use them up while you wait, so that CJ will reload and
have a fresh clip ready for the next target.

I have found that finishing off the clip before the next round helps
tremendously. One of my very few beefs with this game, lack of a reload
button.

Another small tip, initially firing at the bottom of the targets helps
because the others usually start from the top. When you go top to
bottom, you start out possibly shooting at targets that are gone.

You can reload instantly by switching from one weapon to another and back
again. Don't know if you can do it during this particular mission, but
during the game in general it always works.

Really? I hadn't noticed this. After having infinite ammo from
cancelling out the Ammunation challenge, I don't see numbers anymore.
Gonna have to try this, thanks.
