Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows Won't Connect

I recently purchased the official wireless xbox controller for windows, with the little receiver included and all. I can't get it to connect, the green light is on at the receiver (not blinking as if its not connected), but the controller will not designate a quadrant light to show its connected. it just keeps blinking.
In device manager I show "XBOX 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows", but no controller. Under "Unspecified" I have a "HID-Compliant Device" which i'm assuming is the controller, but i cant get it to update drivers or anything. Please help!

I was previously using a wired version of the controller, so it had the "motionjoy" drivers already installed. Wouldnt let me install from disc because it kept giving the error that it was already updated.

Click Start, type Device Manager, and press Enter then find "XBOX 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows" (or what ever it says it will say something xbox) then open the driver tab and at the bottom and click uninstall

Wired controllers don't need drivers. You just plug them in and they work.

To uninstall any previous drivers you have, go to Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.

Select your driver then remove it. Install the new one you downloaded.
