Hey all,

I recently swapped my intel system for an amd64 one.
asus a8n-sli deluxe /3500+ winchester 0.09 / 6800GT pci-e

with my 6800gt agp i could go as high as 425/1200, but on my pci-e there are glitches and artifacts even at 400/1150 already (syndrome of core overheating, not ram) temps are at 66c under load when oc'ed, just like my previous card.

I hardcore stresstested it at stock, but there were no imagecorruption, therefor no defective pipelines :(

pci-e is clocked at 100mhz
cpu at 2550mhz atm
ram at 533mhz 2.5-3-3-6-2T atm
HT at 1076mhz
divider 9.5 atm

any ideas? vid-bios mod for 1.4v? or..?

I figured it's the RAM after all, they make artifacts even at 1080mhz, which sucks since my old card could easily do 1200mhz. kinda disappointed, but hell.. nf4/amd64 pretty much makes it insignificant in performance comparison from before :D

if there's anymore whining i'll just go sli..

then.. what have people gotten out of their 1.4v biosmods?

OCability is pretty much random most of the time, regardless of other cards, even with the EXACT same model number, could do.

Oh yeah, your RAM isn't at DDR533....it's at DDR510. If you use a half multiplier with an A64, it will take your CPU speed, round up your multiplier (in your case, to ten) and divide by it. You're actually running 255MHz 2.5-3-3-6-2T (which are, frankly, awful timings, but the A8n-SLI will do that to you).

The PCI-X versions run at lower clock speeds becuase the PCI-X slot only uses a 100mhz bus. And it wont help to increase this either.

really? that's not what cpuid or any other software tells me ;)

I haven't been pushing the ram that much you, been more concerned with the GPU. I've had them at 550mhz and reviewers have had them at 598mhz, so yeah.. they suck big time :p haha

LOL true.. they are Adata Vitesta DDR500 CL3, but they clock rather well as you can see :) though they are not exactly Geil Platinum, right :p

Yeah, surprisingly CBID and CPU-Z and Sandra don't pic up on it (maybe the new CPU-Z does), but I'm most definitely positive that you're running your RAM slower than you think.

It has nothing to do with that. It's all about core quality and the degree of ram faults at certain speeds (if even one of the eight chips can't take the speed, no more for the rest of the RAM).

hmm.. nvidia ntune displays the same as cpu-z. but thanx, i'll be sure to check up on it ;)

CPU-Z 1.29 reports the same

why? because they are not capable of 2-2-2-5-1T?

i don't know much about A64 yet.. this is my first amd since the k6-2 :p

i suppose you are relating to the timings, yes?

heh,
hm.. ah see. I find this system a hell of a lot more stabile than my previous rig, though with the i875 i got better memory performance; regardless of instability.

I am nowhere done playing around with this though. I seems the board accepts higher vDimm as well and higher clockspeeds than my ic7-max3.
so, you'd advise me to pass on these modules and go for something else? like what within this pricerange o_O

I know what Vapor meant with the ddr speeds, sometimes the selections in the bios is overridden depending on the independent configuration. You'll just have to doublecheck when a combo of settings are made. When done within nVtune, it does sometime display the wrong ddr frequency, as you said, 562 as opposed to 533 for instance. (cpu-z vs. world)

hm.. it seems in the end you were right :p

550+ requires cas 3

i figured to get them running stabile with 1T though, there are soo many ram adj. settings in that bios it's a lifetime experience :)
