You think enclosed HDD coolers are efficent? Cooler Master has a model that fits 5.25 drive. I'm using Ultra attachable dual fan coolers right now.

You really shouldn't bother with those harddrive cooling crap, a simple 80mm fan blowing through your 3 harddrives is more than good.
June 16, 2005 12:05:49 PM

I'll have to disagree at having the extra fans. My Raptors run very hot. I had bought the coolers, and they are extremely cooler now. this is also running with a 120mm case fan....oh well

Well I have no use for a sunbeam. Plus I added the dual fan coolers because in my setup the 120mm forced air wasn't cutting it. After I attached the cooler...My heating issue was gone. So I guess in different applications this holds true. If scott is comparing to anyother application...which most are different most of the time what he says holds true.

Again I was just asking about the enclosed cooler for added knowledge of that type of technology. I have looked at them and IMO it doesn't look as if would produce suffiant cooling anyway. especially for a raptor. I beleive the one I was looking at had only one fan which was like a 30mm or something....very small!!!

Don't waste your money, I have 2 15k RPM SCSI drives, and the method i'm using, which is a single fan blowing air through them is more than enough. And I believe your raptor is 5000rpm less than mine:D  So it shouldn't be hotter than mine.
June 16, 2005 3:20:23 PM

Oh I just realized, you got a crappy thermaltake case, well no wander your computer runs warm.
June 16, 2005 3:41:12 PM

Well spending 8 dollars on 2 Ultra coolers isn't really wasting money, and My case is pretty compact so It might just as well be running hotter. I said before applications are all different. It doesn't mean what you suggest will work....which it won't in this situation. it might very well in yours.

Insult? well you haven't talked to much people, in the world and cyberworld. Oh yeah BTW please don't post when your having your period. I was just trying to save you some money on harddrive cooling. And obviously now realizing what horribly designed case you're using, it might not work.
June 16, 2005 4:14:41 PM

I wasn't asking in question of buying I was asking for knowledge base only...if you read my post. I've talked to enough people...blah blah....What makes you think I'm on my period? Theres a proper way of talking to people you know. not saying there stuff is junk. Maybe "Your case isn't sufficant for the cooling your trying to find"....lol...or maybe "Your case wasn't designed to provide sufficant cooling your inquiring about"....Hmm....That's what I'd say.....lol

Calm down i'll answer your original question... Jeez don't go all crazy from my simple opinion, well and it's the hard truth:D  It's no the drive bay coolers aren't as effective as the dual fan ones youg to already. Fans are too tiny, 40mm fans really don't push enough air.
June 16, 2005 4:19:34 PM

Excellent.....I agree with that. I prefer the 120mm fan case, and the coolers I use....I didn't think they were that great. thank you

Well now i have no use for my drives, since i don't have a PC anymore, stuck on my 5400RPM 60G notebook harddrive.
June 17, 2005 5:29:27 AM

I desparately need a new PC, still debating on x700pro or the x800xl though.
June 17, 2005 5:19:37 PM

You seem to have your mind made up, but the fact remains that HD coolers are a waste of money. So what if raptors get hot, they are made to withstand the heat that they produce. If your in to case modding then sure why not, but most case modding is a waste of money also. It would be much wiser to spend the money on cooling other components that really need to be cooled.

Why dont you have a computer?

Why are you considering a X700 Pro?

Sold my system along with my cooling stuff, so getting a 3000+, Epox ultra board, and i was thinking of x700pro because the next gen cards are coming soon, just want to get something for a few months then toss out and get 1 of the next gen cards. Then again i was thinking about a X800XL as well due to the fact that this last round of video cards, they didn't come out in acceptable quantities like 5 months after the paper launch. I really don't feel like being stuck with a X700Pro for half a year. How much were you thinking you want on that x700pro?

Oh BTW you got boot at 5.6Ghz?
June 17, 2005 10:14:22 PM

I'll PM you later about the X700PRO. I wouldnt be asking much, the damn things are going for almost nothing here in the states. I may be wrong, but I think that I saw one for $140.00 the other day.

I got more than a boot at 5.6Ghz Windows fully loaded and I got a screen shot of CPUZ. Thats where I should have shut down. My stupid ARSE had to attempt a PCMark04 bench. My HD's are now corrupted. Im not going to try to recover the screen shot until I do more research on Data recovery. In the past I have gone back and somehow managed to recover data that was 2 reformats back but that was more by accident than anything else. I think that ive got a good shot at getting the screenie. Keep in mind that this is with liquid cooling and not phase change.

How's your overclocking on your card going? And have you volt modded it yet?

Ooh too bad, can you still get a screenie to me on that 5.6Ghz?
June 17, 2005 11:51:05 PM

3DMark 05 - 6116 3rd overall in the ORB among X800XL's
3DMark 03 - 13902 5th " " " " " " " " " " " " " "
PCMark 04 - 7446 2nd or 1st There is a Dual core ahead of me, but IMO they should be in a different category.

I havent volt modded yet. In all of those except PCMark 04 my XL is the highest scoring card that has not had the volt mod done to it.

Im not sure if I can recover the screen shot. Im building a new rig at the moment, when I finish it and run some bench marks then I will see if I can recover it. It made me sick when the HDs corrupted.

Yeah your X800XL's frequency, i'm going to get a Sapphire X800XL, just card, no cable/driver, no power connector, and only using 2.0ns, i'm hoping for the clocks of 500mhz on the core with VVPU mod from 1.3 to 1.5. Though I am curious on how far you got with stock voltage.
June 18, 2005 8:09:14 AM

474/609 and most of the regulars in the ORB say that mine is one of the highest they have seen without the volt mod.

You shouldnt have any trouble reaching 500Mhz with the mod. You better go ahead and get another Koolance enclosure or figure out a way to cool the RAM on both sides. The volt mod cards are getting up to around 515 with liquid. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=922351

What brand is your x800xl? For cooling, i'm using a Swiftech MCW50 waterblock, and for the ram, i'll just hack up another socketA heatsink.

ATI Radeon straight from the factory. I cant beleive that your not getting another koolance enclosure. BTW, im stuck at 26 secs in SuperPI 1M. Any suggestions?
