Hey,
I am planning on upgrading my gaming computer to AMD based system. I will be using high-quallity water cooling so heat will not be an issue. My current list of parts can be found here - http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/WishLi... Water Cool. I want to take the FX55 and overclock it to 3.0 GHz and up (if possible). The memory on that list may be good enough. I was also looking at the memory here - http://www.mushkin.com/doc/products/memory_detail.asp?ID=198. I would love any advice anyone can provide on overclocking the fx55 to 3.0 and up. Also, this is the first AMD system I have built. So I am not a pro at overclocking these AMDs.
Thanks for the advice!

Edit - I am buying the FX55 San Diego core

1. change motherboard to the DFI Nforce4 SLI board
2. Since money isn't a concern, get a 7800GTX
3. Go with OCZ DDR500 PC4000 VX ram
4. Go with ceramique instead of silver

It should hit 3.0Ghz no problem, I don't know what is high quality watercooling, post a link on it.

well im no genius, but instead of getting a fx 55 i would get a dual core amd, maybe your better off with that?

AMD 64bit 3500+ @ 2.3Ghz
ASUS A8N-SLi Deluxe
2x 512mb Corsair 3200XL PRO
Gigabyte 6800 Ultra 256mb @ 454/1.15
Enermax 600w Noisetaker PSU
74Gb 10k Raptor

Thanks for the advice. The motherboard I have picked out is actaully pretty good. It uses the same BIOS system as the DFI. I dont want an SLi motherboard. I am using the HIS x850xtpe because it is crossfire enabled. When I start to see socket 939 motherboards with crossfire I will end up getting a new motherboard anyways. I will look into that RAM but what about the stuff in my second link? A bunch of people at www.overclockersclub.com said that was the way to go. The water cooling system I built myself. I only say its high-quallity because I have used other water cooling systems and not have had such great temps as I do now. I use this as my cooler/heatsink - http://www.koolance.com/shop/product_info....products_id=115

The only things running behind my games are small monitoring programs. Such as AIM running in the task menu along with 10 other things. If I used dual core would this make my stuff run faster? I'd still want to overclock it to 3.0 and up if possible.

LOL X850XT crossfire... why would you want that it'll get severely r@ped in performance by the X900Pro, X900XT, and X900XT PE, and even maybe the 7800GTX, in real life apps. That waterblock isn't exactly world's greatest... If you think it's good, well i'll take your word for it, but i normally don't call a cooling system good until it can cools the components below room temperature. Do you have a chiller in your watercooling setup? Or a peltier?

Most people i've seen getting over 3Ghz has chilled watercoolers, or freon cooling systems. But i'm sure if you have decent watercooling, you'll get there, since it's on the new San Diego core.

I just want a system that can keep upto date with current games for at least 2 years. Do you think it would be a good idea to get a 6800 Ultra (a single one performs under a x850xtpe) and later this or next year get another same one? I still think just going with the x850xtpe and staying with that for a while will be fine. If not I'll sell it and go with what your saying. I have not heard of a 7800GTX? Can you provide links? Also, there are chemicals mixed with water that keep the water cool. The water is chilled to the touch. Also, why not just use Silver 5?

1. 7800GTX will be available in retail channels in the next week or so. And it performs on par with a 6800GT SLI system, now imagine SLIng that:D

2. Well chill to the touch, our body's about 37C, so anything lower is chill to the touch, do you think you could stick a thermal probe or something in that water and post what temperature the water is at?

3. I always recommend Ceramique over Silver is because Ceramique performs better, and doesn't conduct electricity, so just in case you get some on the pins you'll be fine.
