For all of you Liquid cooling people ive got a fairly cheap solution to get you below ZERO C. I already had a liquid cooling setup, so keep in mind that im only including the cost of the new equipment.

5 cubic' compact freezer
20' X 2 of soft copper line
3 rolls of pipe insulation
3 rolls of insulated tape
3 rolls of electrical tape

I got the freezer brand new for $99.00 on sale. The line is the only other significant expense. It was less than $30.00 for 40' of line and you could get away with 20'. The advantage to the extra 20' roll is that you can leave it coiled inside the freezer and not even worry with a resivior. I would suggest using the extra roll as a coil and using a resivior. This way you can submerse the coil in a seperate res inside the freezer. You better study up on insulating the Mobo and CPU socket because this thing gets really cold. Ive had mine up and running for the past 4 days and the only problem that I have encountered is the liquid freezing when im not using the system. This can be easily avoided by either turning the frezzer setting to min or by using your system 24/7 folding for THGC :)

So far I have easily hit -10C and still have room to go lower. Im not going any lower until I get a new CPU waterblock that doesnt have an acrylic top like mine does. From what I hear Acrylic will crack at low temps. You will also need a heavy duty pump. I suggest an inline that is capable of 700 GPH or more. If you would like to see pics of my setup, PM me your e-mail addy.

Hehe 100 dollars freezer ehe? Isn't that money better spent on whores?

Reply to scottchen

LOL! Im to damn old to be paying for it. Actually, i guess ive always paid for it. Just not straight up with cash. No, hold on. Maybe I have done that also. Oh well, i needed to go sub zero to have a chance of breaking 6ghz and this seemed to be the cheapest alternative. Im almost certain that -20C is reachable. Ive had this thing under a 80% CPU load for 14Hrs and the temp isnt turned down all the way. Streaming, Folding and running some benchmarks and ive stayed at 16C. Thats with s very small res and way to much copper line between the comp and the frezzer.

-10C, that is the water temperature right? BTW what additives did u use in the water?

Reply to scottchen

No sir, thats the CPU temp. The water temp is around -15 to -20C. Im using a 100% winterizng formula produced by Preston. I checked with the chemistry Dept at my school and they tell me that it wont harm any components that are in my cooling system. The main concern is the pump being able to handle colder temps.

Pretty impressive there Moz, now just make sure that freezer's compressor doesn't die. They weren't designed to handle constant heat, only designed to cool, stop, then cool again, then stop, not constant.

Reply to scottchen

yeah, the AC chiller is more doable, but then... all these home made phase chilling is for benching... so go with ln2! =D

I think that it will do ok for my purposes. What makes the thing so effective is the copper coil. Im going to put a large res in tonight. Based on what its done so far with the extra couple of gallons after they have cooled I dont think that its going to run 24/7. I dont run this rig 24/7 unless im testing something. Ive got a couple of backups for regualar use.

Off topic. Do you know where I could find some pics of RAM drives? Like the one Gigabyte is about to put on the market. Thats my next project. I need something to go by, I plan on building one myself.
