Hope someone can remember these antiquities. We have a PII-300 came with
Win 95B. Did a format and install with Win 98se. However, can't get
defrag to work...always freezes at some point. nothing in the background
except explorer. scandisk (thorough type) was OK. Should we have Fdisk'd
1st?

I have a 300 as a 2nd computer. Try to find a copy of the free "End It All"
program. It shuts down everything except the essential items. The problem
you are having is common. If you wish I can send you a copy.

Look at Device Manager in the System icon of Control Panel. Are all the devices
configured properly, or do some of them have either yellow exclamation points or
red X's, indicating incorrect configuration? If the system does not have a
proper setup for the software drivers that talk directly with the hardware, all
bets are off re. correct operation of the software... Ben Myers
