Getting either the Samsung a670 or LG VX6100

I'm looking for opinions/comparisons by those who may have tried both.

I had a 670 at one time and loved it. I see these are both comparable
in size, price, and features.

I also know the LG has a few more bells and whistles:

-driving mode (dont really care for)
-tri-mode reception (I got by just fine in my area w/o tri mode)
-ability to send video
-speaker phone
-more ring tones

But (and I know this sounds a bit silly), I'm turned off by it's
monochrome front-display. I loved seeing my people's pics coming up on
the front when they called. I assume the 6100 can't do this. If only it
had a color front display, it would be the best phone ever. But this
one feature is making me lean back to 670.

Anyone else have any comparitive input? TIA!

We have both the 670 and 6100 in my family. I greatly prefer the 6100,
because of the speakerphone and because it's slightly larger than the
670. If it matters to you, the 6100 display is slightly higher than
the 670's (128x160 vs 128x128. BTW, the 6100 has no video capability.

One other thing I like about the 6100 over the 6700 is that you can put
the 6100 in and out of vibrate only mode with the * key and put it in
and out of lock mode with the # key. Not sure how you put the 670 in
and out of vibrate, but the only way to put the 670 into lock mode that
I know if is by going through the menu system.

Both phones have the annoying voice recognition "command system" which
means that you can't just push a button and say a contact's name to
dial, but have to push the button, say "contacts" or "name dial", wait
for the prompt, say the name, wait for the confirmation, and say "yes",
an utter waste of time, IMO.

I don't know how the 670 works on incoming calls, but the 6100 only
shows the contact pic on the inside display. The outside display only
shows the name and number of the caller. I'm not sure if the outside
display on the 670 shows the caller pic or only the inside display.

I recently upgraded from a Samsung A310 which gave us great service for over
two years. So, my first choice was a Samsung A670. After two brand new
phones failed to work properly. The first phone had three problems out of
the box. An almost unreadable dim display, an inability to switch between
calls when a call was waiting and logging errors of missed and received
calls. The second one had a brighter display, was able to switch between
calls but still had a logging problem. It is interesting to note that the
call logging problem has been discussed at length on the internet for over a
year. Evidently Samsung/Verizon don't care. The local Verizon store
technical support acknowledged that the problem was occurring and said that
they never heard of the problem before. After a bit of study I got a
VX-6100. I find that the display on the VX6100 is considerably brighter
than the A670. It also has a few more bells and whistles such as a better
selection of built in ringers, voice dial that actually works without setup
or voice training. The call holding of both the Samsung and LG are both
good. The volume on the VX6100 is much better than the A670 and
subjectively I think that the audio quality of the VX6100 is slightly
better. In addition the VX6100 offers a speaker phone capability so that
you can be just as obnoxious as your NexTel friends. The battery life of
the VX6100 seems to be a bit less than the A310. This could be due to being
a tri-mode phone with analog capability which the A670 does not provide.
The advantage of the monochrome front display on the VX6100 is that it is
readable in virtually any lighting. The front display on the A670s that I
had were not readable in outdoor lighting

I had the A670 for a few months and I loved it. I had no problems with
it whatsoever. I broke it a few days ago and went to Verizon to get a
new phone. I wanted the A670 again but they didn't have anymore,
however they gave me the LG VX6100 cause they convinced me it was a
better phone. The 6100 is okay with the speakerphone capability however
it doesn't have an antenna that can pull out. I have poor reception in
my basement with the 6100. With the A670 I always had 4 bars now with
the 6100 I only get 2 small bars that dont do any good. Im going back
to Verizon and exchanging it.
