Well, there's an easy solution for dial-up users.

yeah i know. i would have said that to Fredi, but its a little unfair since it stops ALL the pictures from loading.

but still, i really did like it and would even be willing to mod the pictures that are put up. there are many other forums that have that option enabled and they got 56k users too. i seriously would make sure the pics are ok to go on the forum too.

Yeah, then I can have my Auburn logo sig back. I know a couple of forums where self-governance works pretty well. Most folks are willing to report the stuff that breaks the rules in order to keep the ability to post pictures.

Wouldn't it be so much easier to post a pic of a motherboard and describe which part you're talking about in the post, than to just have em go to some separate site?

YES!!! i agree. those are good reasons to have them. also, even though there were no rules set about the picture tag, we did well. no porno was used. seriously, i think we should have that option. i don't know, but if help is needed, i'd be willing to provide any kind of help that i can.

yeah its a nice idea... but hell for people on poor dialup, especially 33K like spitfire.

Ive seen it on other forums too... so many pictures and sig-pics that you loose the plot of the thread.

people reply to posts with a single line, yet their sig-pic takes up 15 or 20!

Reply to lhgpoobaa

thats why you'd have rules. the one aubby had was totaly fine. and the size could be limited that way. just like the letter count is. i think i know a good way to make this work actually.

It still suxzor for dialup users.
Consider how slow THGC can get normally, then add to that the download speed of a 33K modem.

yeah it always sucks for some one. you can't make every one happy, but we sure would have more happy people with that enabled. the other thing is that it doesn't slow thg forum down one bit. and like i said, we can have rules about it to make sure most people can be happy

Well, I guess it's only fair to you, but you could have just disabled images when you browsed the forum. Personally I'm at my parents place and they only get about 2.5kb/sec and the pictures loaded relatively fine. First the thread would load and then the pictures so it wasn't a big deal at all.

Couldn't have clicked on individual pages? Pics are only slow the 1st time anyway.

thats what i'm saying... even on your connection it should be fine as long as the whole thread is not spammed with it. thats where the rules come in tho

Or, like I mentioned, just disable the pics, anyway. What does it take? 5 seconds? Can do that while you're sitting there, waiting for the first text to load, anyway.

Hell, it took less than one whole day to get it axed.

one thing that could be done is if we had a new icon. like the note icon or the trophy icon. it would be a picture icon and that could be used on threads with pics in them. also, only the first post could have pics in it on a new thread... or like what ever... there is just so many ways of doing this.

All it would need would be an upload feature to an HDD on the THGC servers. You could upload your file, and link to it from the post.

People can browse at their own discretion. Pics get deleted once a thread has reached 3 months old.

Simple, effective and cheap.

No. A URL tag links to a pic on a site. How can I link to my pic if it's not on a site?

This way there's a pic area in the forum, but it's only accessable from the forum it's related to, and it's a choice thing.

Yeah, but allowing a pic only in the first post would be negative. Then, people who would like a nice, simple, small sig (my AU logo, for example) couldn't have it.

Democracy is not always good and good things are not always popular.

Sometimes the forum is very slow without pics, and how slow 100+ post (with pics) threads will load?

I think that the "Other" fourm is filthy enough without porn/nude pics. I bet 1/5 pics in the "Other" fourm will be porn/nude pics.

Who/Which rule is stopping people from posting useless filthy [-peep-] in the "Other" forum? Same thing will happen for pics.

Why have them showing on the forum?

They take up space, and either need a browser to have pic disabled, or have to be 'x' size.

Unless.....it's shown on the forum as a thumbnail, and can be opened as a separate window. That would keep the text in the forum from resizing after the post has been made. Yeah, that would work.

Turning off pics is quick and easy. All you'd really miss compared to now is Thomas Pabst's pic, and unless you have a crush on him, you shouldn't miss that too much. (no offense, Tom  ).

You could have at least said something first. Just running and crying to Fredi looks like a little tattling kid. I think most of us would have at least tried to work out a solution with you and others (several good ideas were mentioned above) that could have worked out well.

Porn would be posted. It's gonna happen. So would spam.

A good membership, willing to self-mod the site in that respect is crucial. Otherwise the piccies would have to go, or there would be an over 18s section. Actually, I'm amazed the other section hasn't been modded in the last few months. An over-18s only sign is kinda required here now.
